Also what was The War of Roses? Oooh, I can do that one!  Lasted over thirty years, starting in 1455 on the 22nd of May. The first battle was in a city not very far from me; St Albans, most of the battle taking place within the main high-street and marketplace areas. Richard Duke of York was leading three thousand men to London, with the intent of seizing control of the country. King Henry VI opposed him with two thousand Lancastrians. Only a hundred casualties in total, three quarters on Henry's side, before the king was captured. Richard then continued on to London and had himself proclaimed Constable of England, until Edward Duke of York could be acclaimed king on the 4th of March. Various battles & stuff happened in between, but on the 22nd of August 1485, a battle two miles south of Bosworth, Leicestershire, resulted in defeat of the Yorkists, despite them having an extra two thousand men (12k Yorkists, against 10k Lancastrians). The Yorkist king, Richard III was killed. Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, took the throne and was crowned Henry VII. By marrying the only surviving child of Edward IV, Elizabeth, he ended the War of the Roses. The start of the Tudor dynasty wasn't fictional Anna. |
