actually, now that i'm thinking about it, i preferred virtualdub over mplayer2.exe before for the most part because of all the video-editing tools the main problem is that you can't watch in full screen mode, as far as i can remember
and i just don't see the need to use mplayer when listening to music if i can play it just as well with WinAmp, and i mean without all the crap, unnecessary tools, unnecessary load on the comp, etc. which is exactly the same reason for preferring mplayer2.exe over the newer versions of WMP.
why in the world do you need a "Media Guide"? "Premium Services"? All you need to do is listen/watch, nothing else!

why in the world do you need a "Media Guide"? "Premium Services"? All you need to do is listen/watch, nothing else! Now Playing > Obviously useful. Media Guide > Poo. But only loads when you select it. Copy from CD > Again, useful. Media Library > Very useful for creating playlists. Radio Tuner > [Same as Media Guide.] Copy to CD or Device > Useful for people with mp3 players, etc. Premium Services > Boring. Never use. Skin Chooser > Useful if you use different skins at different times. 5/8 aint bad. *impales frag*

Now Playing > Obviously useful. and obviously in any mp3 program.... Media Guide > Poo. But only loads when you select it. its the default opening screen. Copy from CD > Again, useful. i prefer mmjb or nero or creative playcenter. Media Library > Very useful for creating playlists. i find it just as easy to add the files i want manually, although winamp 5 has a media library if you prefer that style. Radio Tuner > [Same as Media Guide.] is worthless. Copy to CD or Device > Useful for people with mp3 players, etc. fair enough. Skin Chooser > Useful if you use different skins at different times. there's one in winamp as well. you can just access it via a pull down menu and select the one you want, or open a window and flip through all your skins. *runs over ss with steam roller*

well, the argument might end up between "all-encompassing program that has every feature you could think up" vs. "individual specialized programs that does best at its job"
if i'm to create a music/mp3 cd, i'd just use a cd burner prog that does that. "now playing"? all you need is a playlist. i've stayed with the same skin for WinAmp for several years now, i don't really intend on changing it, and i don't use any skin for WMP... because i don't use it(mplayer2, all the bare-bones) thus no need for the Skin Chooser
and for the most part, i keep my music organized into folders in a designated directory in my drive(several gigs of it), so i don't need a Music Library...
and oh yeah, i had a case where an entire set of music files weren't available because they were on a shared drive over on another comp, and the comp kept on trying to read them and basically went very slow, etc. whenever i tried to open the WMP Music Library when i used to try it...

wow, people use kazaa still... damn you RIAA, but Kazaa is still the best place to DL programs/games . doesn't kazaa just use WMP? and doesn't the preview in Kazaa use whatever other program you tell it to use, like WMPC in my case?

Such as spam. You've been around, what is it, fifteen days? And you've got more posts than I have, and I've been here for months! If you just post on whatever topic you stumble into, people aren't interested in what you've got to say. And besides that, necromancy clutters the forums.

Of course I'm not saying don't post, but you seem to have a tendancy to reply to anything and everything, and it's rarely on topic, or at least related to the current spam being discussed. I'm also not saying that most people here don't spam *glares at almost everyone except SS* but it does clutter the forums up when the active topics are buried beneath piles of old ones to which the sole new reply reads something like: what about a radio?
or better yet... how about no music!
the calvanistic uber peasant has spoken Which has no relation whatsoever to skins! I suppose I'm a bit more sensitive to spam and the like than most people as I'm a mod on three other forums, and because it's a topic I started, but the whole point of forums is to have meaningful discussions where you're supposed to. If you want to spam, there's a whole temple dedicated to the stuff in the Headquarters section! And the HQs itself is for general chatter, so that's the place to be having it.
