i went and saw an advanced preview yesterday...and it was seriously cool....

i didn't really know what to expect from Ang Lee...being an arthouse director charged with turning a comicbook character into a summer blockbuster...but i'm really quite happy with the result, a strangely touching "psychodrama" that makes some fine points on the way people percieve and deal with anger...

it may not be to everyone's tastes as i'm sure "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" wasn't to everyone's liking...but those who watch it seriously will find that it delivers in style

part way through 1984...

very cool book, great writing from Orwell and despite its relatively short length, theres a lot of political and philisophical material for the reader to mull over...but theres a few points that stick out

[li] as with animal farm, this is not a book centered around storytelling...its to make a political point, don't expect a great plot with excitement and tension around every turn...cos you won't get it

[li] an almost blind hate for socialism...though it was written at a time when people were filled to the brim with anti-socialist propaganda so its partially forgiveable...

there would be no problem if he made intricate points on the shortcommings of socialism...but as it stands, sometimes the book just chucks random abuse with no points backing it up...disappointing really

but theres still a lot of points in the book that is intricately written and very throught-provoking

[li] connected with the above points, many characters are "cardboard characters" simply created to prove a political point...they very shallow...though as i've said, the book was not written for its storytelling

though to all of these points...theres only one word: OVER-RULED...the amazing concept itself is enough to cancel out all of the above points...along with the impressive range of politics and philosphy that is included in the book creates a very substantial read that...a lot to think about in this book
308  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / Best Free hosting on: June 26, 2003, 11:11:31 PM
yeah, thats all about coding...and it dosen't say if there are any adverts by using their site

but i'll assume there are none...

mmm...i've got a pile of projects that i want to finish but i'll need some hosting first...
though thats kinda trivial...the main thing is that i was browsing GUA and found some really badly hosted sites such as Lycos and Geocities...so i started thinking:

why don't they use a good host like portland instead of a crap one?

though i couldn't help thinking that there might be someone sniffling at me looking into portland when there are far superior web hosts around....

so...any other offers?
309  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / Best Free hosting on: June 26, 2003, 10:30:54 PM
i'm trying to find the most amazing free web host ever...

so far, portland goes a long way...with some pretty sweet terms:

Quote
[li]No Banners & No Popups
[li]15MB Web Space & 100MB Monthly Bandwidth
[li]Ideal for personal domains, family web sites & test sites
[li]Supports all domains names and subdomains

got a better one?...post it up...

yeah, but FPS stank right up till about uh...quake2/unreal i'd say...so i refuse to play any FPS that came out before those games...bad graphics and dumb controls were too rampant

but now, FPS just plain rule  LOL

bleh...forget it then...i can't really see what else i could do for ye

314  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / Aurons Signature shop on: June 17, 2003, 09:40:23 PM
i er...

ok...um...i'd kinda thought the pictures, text would all mesh together, rather than two seperate pictures beside each other, with clear cut boarders

though it may have been seriously hard to do...mmm, i guess its not so much shit...just wasn't really what i had in mind...

dunno...if you think it would work better with your own images...go ahead...but uh, if you can't be arsed...i understand

er...no its not...its not that its got particularly bad multiplayer its just that games such as BF1942, Wolfenstein provide a much better ww2 multiplayer combat experience
