Title: The Movies
Post by: Galmort on October 16, 2005, 01:35:43 AM
Post your thoughts about movies you've seen. I'd rather see more recent movie reviews in here but thats just me, and who listens to me...i'm quite a common movie goer being that i get to for free so i should be able to tell you how the newer once are..

Yesterday i saw A History Of Violence. don't see it. there were like two good ass-whoopings but thats all they were, not even challenged fights these guys just owned the other people...i had expected more from Viggo Mortensen but of course that is just because of LOTR

Also saw Wallace and Gromit recently, which lives up to its predecessors but probably only because i wanted more really badly. It definitely was a good movie, but probably only a one timer for the theater if you're paying. i dono, i'm not good at this..but i liked it.

I plan on seeing Wallace and Gromit.  I'm not a movie goer, $10... so I tend to only see what are supposed to be the “better movies”… IMHO, there aren’t many… :(

Last movie I saw was Waiting (if you don't count HBO.)  Movie had no story line, but if you are a teenager, then it is hilarious.

You will get scarred for life in one part though.

all the wallace and grommit props and characters got burned last week in a warehouse fire

havent been to the cinema for ages but i think the last film i saw was...the island, not bad, made better by scarlet johanson

batman begins though is top notch, if you see it on DVD get your wallet out there and then

I must say, Batman Begins was the best summer movie, then Wedding Crashers, then Red Eye.

Do not even bother renting Triple X: State of the Union.  I rented it yesterday and now I'm considering burning my eyes out with cigarettes.

I just saw Serenity last Friday- it was very funny, but rather weird at times.  My friend said that there's a background story, and I think it might help to read that before seeing the movie.  Still, it's worth it.  ;)

what I want to see again is The Count of Monte Cristo, the only movie that I know of that was much much much better then the book :P
well, I might come up with some others, but that's thinking :hehe:

Revolver and Night Watch are both worth seeing. The latter is in Russian with subtitles, so don't bother if you hate subs, but they're both very good.

That movie was so random at the end... I still haven't figured out whether the guy's 'evil' side took him over completely or whether he was able to 'kill' his evil side.

Title: The Movies

Revolver is a bit like Fight Club. With the killing and the paranoia and the multiple personality disorder, anyway.

Interesting, the assassin looks like the BBCs political correspondent. Conspiracy theories abound.

Post by: Galmort on October 18, 2005, 12:51:51 PM
Blade Trinity was awesome...wasn't even interested in the blade movies, but i saw this one and i mean, it wasn't much special really but i loved the comic relief

Title: The Movies
Post by: mole on October 18, 2005, 02:04:38 PM
no no no no no, blade trinity was aweful, it had 2 good fight scenes but no story line what so ever

its only worsened by things like dare devil.

fight club is a classic film

charlie and the choco factory was scary (already done that one by the way)

It's a movie spin-off of a failed TV show (called Firefly, I think).

I haven't seen either, but you're the third person to say the film was good, so that's a good sign...

Peter Jackson is the director of the Halo movie, so it promises to be fairly decent.  I'll watch it for sure.

Saladin, you ever to the site http://halomovieonline.com/ (http://halomovieonline.com/)?  It's a pretty all-around decent Halo forum... kicks the Bungie forums all to hell.

Doom movie will probably be an Alien-like thing but not as good.
Halo was practically a movie anyway, and not a particularly great one.

They should make a Duke Nukem movie. :D

The gun is called like.. Bio F(something) G(something), scientific name, which they abbreviated to BFG. And yeah... he's like about ready to have sex with the gun based on the music in the background.

BFG=Big Fucking Gun

Not sure if it's a spoiler, but read at your own risk.

bleh... all the Harry Potter fans are disappointed, and all the people who neglect to read the books are confused and they don't know what's going on.  This movie sucked.  It went too fast, and they basically ruined the perception of the book.  It's so much more indepth than what they portray it as.  LIke the whole story of the Crouch's, and what happens after Voldemort comes back such as the Minister thinks Harry Potter is speaking poppycock about Voldemort coming back.

Fred and George do get to have some fun this movie
Fred and George also make a single reference to S.P.E.W. ;)

I still have to read the new book, but here I am thinking that I should read the old books as well.  I want to... but I wonder if I'll ever find that sort of time... :(

yeah.  some of it was good, but most of it was rushed and didn't serve the purpose :hmmm:

the death eaters looked pretty scare, though.  KKK people with black robes and skull masks

Yeah I was pretty pissed that they didn't have Fudge acting like a fool, that would've set up movie 5 well as it was meant to in the book. They also skipped way over the Crouch's

mole wins. Films of books seldom capture the true depth of it. LoTR worked because a lot of LoTR in print is totally and utterly irrelevant. When a book is long, and all of it is relevant, you can't do a film of it. Yet they try with HP, because money is shiny and the hollywood crows likes the shinies.

because they want a good place to end, and because the book is already designed to end there, it becomes a natural choice.

on another note:
They demolitioned the cheap theater!!
Now there's only the 'chearer' theater.  This old rundown place where the prices aren't all that better then te pricey places.
Why did they demo the cinema saver?! Damn you albertsons, damn you.  You already have one across the street, you don't need another one RIGHT there!

spent around 50 hours on a bus in thel ast 9 days so we got a fair few movies watched, so ill just reel off what i can rememeber

wallace and gromit; curse of the were-rabbit > just as youd expect it to be , good
coach carter > good, bit predictable toward the end but it was a good end
along came polly > romantic comedys arent my thing but it wasnt the end of the world
narnia > would have been a lot better had lord of the rings not been made into a film, needed to be longer and i was annoyed by the end but in all not to bad
fantastic four > only wanted to see jessica alba anyway so it doesnt really matter that i missed the end of it but it looked quite good from what i saw
charlie and the chocolate factory > just as disturbed as i was the first time i saw it

Fantastic Four was really bad. It was like X-Men but without the good actors, plot, or special effects.

Charlie and the Choclate Factory... Mr. Depp is not Willy Wonka. He looks like Michael Jackson. The original guy who played him did lines of cocaine on the set, and looked that a paedophile. That's Willy Wonka.

Ok, looking like Michael Jackson means looking like a paedonphile too. Except you can't say that. He's innocent.

Wallace and Gromit rocked, of course.

Not seen the others. Was meaning to see Narnia but never got around to it.

Anyone else seen Jarhead or Munich? I thought Jarhead was good. Some soldiers have slated if for being innacurate, but I think they're lying for the sake of their image. It does make them look like sex crazed insane guys with a dire need to kill something.. which I think sounds incredibly accurate.

Munich was.. boring, frankly. The fact it bears no resemblance to the actual events of operation bayonet doesn't help it one jot ('inspired by actual events'), but there is a point where you think.. are they really going to show every assassination in so much detail? Boring, Spielberg, pro-Israel crap.

Jarhead was good.  The sex scene caught me off guard.  sex > violence which is kind of weird for a military movie, but the symbolism was cool.  Doesn't hurt that Jake Gyllenhaal is so HOT.

Brokeback Mountain was good too.  Didn't it win like almost everything at the Oscar's? Anyway, it's a slow movie but a great love story.

has anyone seen the new james bond?

Title: The Movies
Post by: Louise on January 04, 2007, 04:44:27 PM
Saw it. I thought it had too many chase scenes that went on for too long, the plot wasn't hugely interesting, and the new guy playing Bond was neither attractive enough to be nice to look at nor annoying enough to hold my interest. And to cap it all off most of the film wasn't even all that visually pleasing, something that a lot of the previous ones have had going for them.

So, feh. It wasn't awful, but I thought they could have done better.

i enjoyed the action scenes and the chases, but on the whole it wasnt a good film. it missed some of the key bond film features, mainly the big elaborate ending which was replaced with him and the girl which just seemed to drag on and on

Title: The Movies
Post by: Hornet on January 13, 2007, 07:24:49 AM

True, that.  It did lack pace after a while, and there weren't any of the usual developments, such as Bond nipping around installations in loads of different countries and leaving half of them in tatters.  Goldeneye's probably the best one so far.

I've just seen the new Wallace and Grommit, which was good once I got into it.  As my girlfriend pointed out though, it lacked an ET reference when they were flying around with the planes, but as there were so many other references there that might have been deliberate.
