Title: Some Photographs
Post by: SS on July 12, 2005, 06:14:51 PM
A few weeks ago I got myself a camera (a Nikon D70 for anyone interested), and have finally got round to putting some of the photographs I've been taking into a gallery.
Which you can access here (http://www.hybridchill.com/Gallery/index.cfm?View=Thumbs).

Feel free to comment on the pictures, or my camera, or photography in general.

It’s not like I’m being bias or anything… (ya I am)
But I like the cat.
If I was to post pictures of the surroundings here…you’d see dark golden rolling foothills with sparse dark green clusters. [/use of poetic license]
More like suburbs

I also like the cat, since it was moving quite fast and I still managed to snap it without any blurring.

The pictures in the photo are mostly around Dover & Hythe (where my family live).
I'm actually in Croydon which is a large town just south of London, and thus no where near as green. :(
Though there are several nice parks and green areas in and around the area, and I'll be going out and taking some pictures of them at the weekend.

mole: why do you have both - isn't the D50 just a cut-down version of the D70?

Thanks. :)

Just let me know which one you want, then I'll upload it and give you the URL. :)
Oh and say if you want NEF, JPEG, or other format.

Hey Chris, cause your Dad works at Nikon, can we get cheap Digicams off you? Cause we need one.

I have to say I like the crow one.  Spot the minimalist.

And if there's cheap cameras in the offing, chalk me up for one; mine was neutered in a powersurge.

Hehe... the cat one is really cute, but IMO the titles and captions on the photos are the best part of the gallery!  :D

Me too - I've currently got it as my desktop background.
I especially like it because it wasn't a planned shot - I was going for another bird on a fence below but it flew away before I could get a good shot, then I looked up, spotted the crow and immediately snapped it.

 Are you insulting my photos or complimenting my wit?

I particularly like the way you've caught the wings fully extended; you can clearly see the pinions.  As a small diversion from the Engine, I've extracted the crow from that and vectorized it; it would make a good emblem for a flag.  (Then again, I've also made a version where the background is blood-red, strewn with lightning bolts and flames, and the crow has a demonically glowing red eye.  Original it isn't, but ye gods it's effective. (And neatly illustrates what happens when I get carried away))

I've just had an idea...  Could I have a high-res version?  Jpg by preference, although I can use just about anything (except WBMP).  Many pre-emptive thanks.

Um.... Insulting your wit whichever makes you happier!  :paranoid:

Hornet- could you post the two crow pics you made (I especially wanna see the demonic one!)  :)

Just crow: 50KB 213x171 PNG (http://www.hybridchill.com/misc/crow.png)

Whole image: 3.36MB 3036x2010 JPEG

Cheers, and thanks for the cut-down version; that's saved the modem from blowing something vital.  You might want to remove the link to the larger file, as spiders might follow it and at 3.36 megs a shot that could prove expensive.

Lanair: I'll redo the demonic version with the new image, as it's far higher quality than the previous one.  The other picture isn't a picture as such, it's just a vector of the outline.  As with the above, I'll remake it and post a little something to illustrate.

They'd need to follow it a few thousand times in a month to eat up all my bandwidth on that server, but better not to tempt fate...

(if anyone else wants it, let me know and I'll give you the link)

When was the last time you checked your logs for spider useragents?  Garjen's logs are full of them (currently, Googlebot and Yahoo!Slurp).

Lanair (et al), here ye go (http://www.bpsite.co.uk/Pyre/Cronic_MkII.jpg).  Not my best effort by a long chalk, as the effects feel stuck-on (probably because they are), and I think I went a bit overboard whilst airbrushing the lightning.

Cheers.  I tried to lay the the symbols flush with the ground, giving the impression that the crow was summoned from the Nether realms, but they had to be so skewed that it became impossible to actually see what they were.

In case anybody wondered, 'Cronic' is a contraction of 'crow' and 'demonic'.

Hmm?  I thought the crow was cute and fluffy... er... never mind.    LOL

On a (slightly) random note, check out the WoW screenshot of the day, found here (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/screenshots/screenshot.aspx?imageindex=318&Set=0)... looks like SS was plagiarized.  :D

there nice photos and but they arent very artistic at all, next time you see something that catches your eye shoot that and not a pretty garden...seems a little contradicting

I wasn't trying to be artistic yet, just practising getting to know the camera.
