Title: PA
Post by: underruler on June 20, 2004, 12:15:21 AM
I hate PA (Parental Advisory) on CDs b/c my mom doesn't want me to have any of that, so I was kind of angry that when I went to buy the new Beastie Boys' CD that it had that on it.

I hate that organization that puts that shit on it and that stupid mom that took those guys to court about the language and terminology used on their CD that got this shit started in the first place.

I know...I was kind of angry when I picked it up and then it had the price sticker trying to cover the PA sticker.  I wanted to buy the CD, but I thought I would get in trouble since I still look kind of young I guess.

yeah whats up with that?  do they not let you buy them if you arent a certain age?  I was picking up a cd that had that so I jsut gave my mom my money and she took care of it because I didnt want to have to deal with puting it back.

AFAIK, you can't buy CDs with the parental advisory sticker on alone until you're 14. The likely have a website, somewhere, if someone cares to read up on the subject...

Solution: Buy CDs that noone bothers to put the stickers on. Carcass have banned cover art, but no parental advisory labels! Decimate have swearynesstitudinalosity, no stickers! Same for Decapitated!

will shops throw you out if you peel the sticker off and still buy it?

i don't think there's legal age to buy that stuff here, i think it would be kinda impossible here, it isn't liquor or something... i don't even think they can make porn illegal to buy for under aged people here

so the US is a 'free' country eh...

no, only free contrys i know of are ...uhhh well...antartica? some where with no law enforcement.

hmm.
im not sure, but i think it's a state law. i dont think the federal government would take the time to enforce this on all 50 of the states.
so....maybe it differs or doesnt even exist in some states?

don't think so... mebbe for the record labels, but i don't think record labels in the netherlands are obligated to put that sort of label on their cd's

Title: PA
Post by: evilknight on June 21, 2004, 10:17:51 PM
well, yeah. in that case, it probably varies from record label to record label.
kinda like back in the 60's, when they had that thing where comics that didnt pass a certain test had a label put on the cover.

hehe I dunno maybe I'm just one of the lucky one's who has a mother who knows that it's just words and means nothing...

But yea I mean my Mother didn't even care about me buying CD's that had the PA label...even when the stuff I was buying was shit like Nas and 2Pac, where the word Ni**a is required to appear in every single song. hehe.

my dad used to make us print lyrics and show them to him before getting cds.  <_< we got smart--looked up the lyrics, saved the html, and edited before printing as necessary  :)

nice job Frag. Yes Under my mother openly cusses at me and on occassion I will openly cuss back...it's a give and take relationship, I give her shit and she takes it. LOL

and yes mole it is just words to an extent, unless ur Marylin Manson talking about Sadamizing (mispelled I know) somebody.

Marilyn Manson is creepy w/ boobs.  I would never buy his CD even if it was squeaky clean.

Title: PA
Post by: fan2hoobastank on June 23, 2004, 09:50:58 PM
hehe nothing will ever ruin boobs for me!

and yes all song lyrics have meaning...but some are exagerated.

Title: PA
Post by: underruler on June 23, 2004, 10:24:11 PM
I'm saying it doesn't matter what they mean...if you use a whole crap load of cuss words it doesn't make the real part of the lyrics any different.  just more explicit.

Title: PA
Post by: fan2hoobastank on June 24, 2004, 12:13:54 AM
Under that's exactly what I was trying to say, all cuss words do is amplify certain things you may be trying to say.

I just went through all my cd's last night and realized that even tho the rock cd's I have are just a much in "need" of a pa sticker/marking of some kind...they don't have them on there and yet every rap cd I have does...

Done a little research in my many bored moments. It IS record label dependant. Which explains why the things I buy never have the stickers - small labels, so they havent signed up.

People like Roadrunner, Timewarner etc will have the stickers. Your 'rock' *cough* bands are likely on small labels.

Post by: mole on June 24, 2004, 08:35:38 PM
well all your bands record labels work out of some 28 year olds flat where they have stupidly magical computers, somewhere on the continent that no one else cares to talk about

kinda makes sense :miffed:

He means that what you listen to really isn't rock.

He doesn't know what I listen to...unless he's going off of my name in which case I don't consider Hoobastank a rock band, i consider them pop at this point.

*claps* Someone's catching on to my dry sense of humour.

But yes, I was going off your name. Rock = Disturbed, Muse and everything between the two. Anything lighter than Muse is Pop, anything heavier than Disturbed is Metal or Hardcore, of varying types ;).
