Title: Wheel of Time
Post by: WBHighwind on May 23, 2003, 11:55:42 PM
Has anybody here read any of the books in this series? I have read up through about book 6 and there are 10 books to my knowledge and an 11th one coming out soon. Its and awesome series and I would recommend it to anyone who like fantasy.

I've read all 10, and i doubt the 11th one is coming out anytime soon, since the tength one only came out about 6 months ago and he will take a year and a half to write it.  they're awsome, but i grow tired of complimenting them every week....so....they're cool, and that's all i'm going to say.

*ahem (http://www.bpsite.co.uk/?page=Books&book=WoT)*

I'm currently re-reading the series, currently near the start of The Great Hunt.

Book 11 I doubt will be out this year... probably February 2004 I would guess, though that is not based on any proven facts.

I liked the Great Hunt, had a good ending. Yeah, I havent been keeping track of it that much lately. I just knew that the 10th book came out and I seem to remember hearing about an 11th. I put book 5 down a while ago in the middle of it so Im gonna have to start back over and read it again.

Rawr, WoT rules.

The people who say they get worse as they go along can take this and shove it up their ass - Winters Heart is the best one.

I dont think that they have gotten any less quality as they go on, I just think that people like the beginning books more just cuz of the storyline, it hasnt progressed as much as in the later books

I'm re-reading tEoTW because I need a book to read... For some reason... just the writing of it (Sentances and stuff) seems odd and alien to me... Well, I guess thats what happens when I stare at my own long, bigworded stuffs. And other big worded stuffs. It'll take me a long while before I'll feel safe with the writing of the book..

There is no cheese right now. I haven't really eaten in 2 or 3 days... :miffed: Don't have any money... Usually after Thursday we only have 30$ left. Too many bills, not enough money... I can't wait for my mom to come home. I'm gunna order her to get a job.

Post by: Filran on May 30, 2003, 04:23:24 PM
Yep. I need money. Ugh. >.< I can't even have lunch at school today because I forgot the money I had. I saw it before I put on my socks. I kept saying, remeber the money. I put on my socks and shoes, and I remeber my money when I'm at school. -.- Another day of no food...

Title: Wheel of Time
Post by: SS on May 30, 2003, 05:01:40 PM
Eeek, haven't you got a rich friend you can borrow the money from or something?

Or you could try the "I'm bankrupt and dying of starvation, please give me a crumb to eat!" act with the canteen/whatever?
I find rolling on the floor and groaning before and afterwards helps their decision. :hehe:

Title: Wheel of Time
Post by: Filran on May 30, 2003, 07:52:40 PM
Nope. Already 5$s in the hole. They won't let me charge anymore. <_< I don't see why we have to pay for food.

And nope. No rich friends. Plus all my friends are bastards who wouldn't give me money. You have to be popular to get money. I got friends who won't even lend me their notes so I can study for finals. -.- Its not my fault the damn teacher talks faster than I can write.

Ah, in that case might I suggest you go find a fair maiden that needs rescuing, return her to her family and ask for a reward? :hehe:

It would work if this was a fantasy setting, but alas! It cannot be in real life...at this time. :miffed:

What about going to the local Inn and performing? Surely that would still work?

There is no local inn, and I'd have nothing to prefrom.

Oh, and don't call me shirley.  ;)

Tuck your middle two fingers under your thumb and pretend your hand is a noisy spaceship.

Title: Wheel of Time
Post by: Filran on May 31, 2003, 04:53:18 PM
My hand says no. How about I just grab the hounds by the jaw and pry their muzzle open then shove a sock in, then run away?

Title: Wheel of Time

Yes, that might work.

Wheee. Me read Crown of Swords now. :o But it all seems... sorta bland and shallow to me now. If only I had finished reading a majority of the books in sixth and seventh grade when I thought they were 'gods gift to the world.'

hmmm does that mean u dont like books or u dont believe in god?

Title: Wheel of Time
Post by: Filran on June 03, 2003, 10:07:25 PM
I don't believe in god, and the books don't seem as good as they used to be. x.X Maybe its just because Rand pisses me off.

Title: Wheel of Time
Post by: Filran on June 05, 2003, 01:44:00 AM
Yes. Rand is too... eh... need a word for Rand. He bothers me. I liked him in the first two... but...

Title: Wheel of Time
Post by: SS on June 05, 2003, 09:54:50 AM
Arrogant?

Full of himself?

Far too protective?

Thinks he can do it all on his own?

Thinks he must do it all on his own?

Or all of the above? :)

After Crown of Swords it does get less Rand-y, in that the other players are a much more major part of Winter's Heart and Crossroads at Twilight.

Title: Wheel of Time
Post by: Filran on June 05, 2003, 11:52:19 AM
Yes. All of the above. And too powerful. Powerful characters bother me. I want to see them get their ass handed to them, and after hundreds of pages, they try to defeat the bad guy again, maybe to win, having through all those pages worked on his power. With Rand its like: "Here you go sir, tons of powers, use them when you want, its all unlimited." "...No charge?" "No charge."

 <_<

And that the  next books focus on other characters... Good. I like Perrin and Mat better. Egwene bothers me... so I kinda... skim her parts. >.>'

Light, he's the bloody Dragon Reborn!

The most powerful channeller of the age, in potentially the last age there is!

He has to fight someone that even the Creator could not destroy!

Of course he has to be frigging powerful!

:P

Title: Wheel of Time
Post by: Filran on June 05, 2003, 09:00:19 PM
I don't CARE if he's the dragon! I don't care WHO he has to defeat. He's got enough bloody power, lets just fling him out there, and kill the Dark One now instead of waiting for him to come visit.

I like trials and struggles and hard times for characters. It usually disgusts me when power is just plopped into their hands and they can do whatever they damn well please with it, but they don't get to the point and kill the badguys.
I usually don't care if people are powerful, but he... he didn't work at it. And it disgusts me. Just Poof, he can do what he pleases. A character (Yes, I'm dragging TCTC in here because its the closest thing) similar to Rand in power is Thomas Covenant. He could just destroy the whole world with the flick of his wrist... but he doesn't know how. Thats what I like. I want heros to shout at other heros, saying they can't do what they want. I want power, but inability to use power without working towards knowledge.
Heros with unlimited power handed to them now seem very, very shallow and childish. Sorta like the Matrix. But thats half and half. I WANT HEROS WHO CAN'T JUST SUDDENLY USE THEIR POWER WHENEVER THEY WANT TO ANY SORT OF EXTENT! *grumble*

I'm just wishing I finished reading the WoT books when I was 11. :P Because then I wouldn't need to rant about Rand. I think after I finish Crown of Swords I'm gunna read some Thomas Covenant to reverse all the damage Rand did to my mind.  :D
