Title: graphics cards Post by: matt_the_shark on January 28, 2007, 09:55:47 PM ok so I've been playing this game called phantasy star universe a lot lately on my lappy, but my graphics card (ATI mobility radeon xpress 200 series) isn't quite up to snuff to run the game too smoothly. so my questions are 1: would one be able to easily change graphics cards on a laptop and 2: what graphics card would you recommend?
Title: graphics cards Post by: Hornet on January 28, 2007, 11:11:48 PM Laptops = no go, really. Cards are very expensive and can even be unique to that manufacturer's shape. You'd be much better off going with a conventional PC. Title: graphics cards Post by: evilknight on January 28, 2007, 11:30:00 PM ^ what he said. unless you're obnoxiously rich, just game on a PC.

Title: graphics cards Post by: matt_the_shark on January 29, 2007, 08:11:29 PM I have, but it's still a bit slow at times :(
so yeah I know that a desktop would be ideal, but if that isn't an option, would there be any other suggestions? I'm running on a compaq presario v5000. Title: graphics cards Post by: evilknight on January 30, 2007, 04:36:55 AM I don't really know anything about overclocking graphics cards, or if it's even feasible with laptop cards, but you could always give that a shot.
Title: graphics cards Post by: Hornet on January 30, 2007, 06:21:25 AM Wouldn't recommend it at all, due to heat issues. As it's frequently built-in to the motherboard on laptops, that's a quick way to toast the entire thing. Title: graphics cards Post by: evilknight on January 31, 2007, 02:20:00 AM Well, if his laptop melts and/or catches fire, at least then he'd be able to justify buying a desktop.
Title: Re: graphics cards Post by: smi256 on February 25, 2010, 10:41:21 PM sooo much time has passed. I have a new desktop (my old one fried) and I'm actually looking into laptops. Does anyone have the newer laptop graphics cards like the geforce 230M or ATI' HD 4550, or even Intell's GMA 4500MHD? If you do, what do you think of them?
Title: Re: graphics cards Post by: SS on May 08, 2011, 12:02:37 AM I have a GeForce GTX 285M in my notebook* and it works well enough - can play anything I've thrown at it on high quality settings.
Er... not that I've thrown a great deal at it recently. I mean, Minecraft is the newest game it has seen, which doesn't exactly challenge it. But it runs UT3, STALKER, Mount & Blade, Fallout 3 all with no problems. ( *It's not a laptop because it's over 5KG and would flatten your lap. :P ) Title: Re: graphics cards Post by: ns33 on October 08, 2011, 08:38:51 AM I try to load YouTube on my laptop and it dies lol
