Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: SS on September 28, 2006, 10:56:25 PM If you're using bpsite.co.uk for anything, weird things might happen over the next couple of weeks.
The domain expires on 12th October, but I am going to transfer it (from Easily to 123-reg, where all my other domains are) before renewing it. If all goes smoothly, nobody will notice a thing. If all doesn't go smoothly.... probably most of you wont notice a thing, but my e-mail aliases likely will all get totally and utterly buggered up. If you're using bpsite.net then you shouldn't notice any problems. Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: SS on September 28, 2006, 11:27:14 PM Heh, well the transfer itself seemed to go painlessly - just filled in one form on Easily's website, and another form on 123-Reg's website, and all seems done.
Just renewed the domain with 123-reg too, so now it's just a matter of monitoring things over the next 48 hours, and verifying that it does renew in a couple of weeks, and all is well. \o/ Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: evilknight on September 28, 2006, 11:36:00 PM /cheer
Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: Rug on September 29, 2006, 03:04:34 PM Some of the links on the front page (like the exceptions parts of the forum descriptions) link to the Easily homepage.
For example, the 'there is a forum for dune books' thing. Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: SS on September 29, 2006, 07:27:47 PM Good catch!
*goes to fix* Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: Hornet on September 29, 2006, 07:30:25 PM The .co.uk address now sends me to the Easily homepage, so I suspect that it wasn't as seamless as anticipated. *grumbles about DNS caching* Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: SS on September 29, 2006, 07:35:58 PM Yeah I ticked the "copy nameservers" box thinking that I'd previously set them to NetHosted/CFDynamics, when they were obviously still on the Easily ones.
Just going in to fix that now. Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: SS on September 29, 2006, 07:53:27 PM Okay, nameservers are updated and they're already working for me here, but might still take upto 48 hours to spread elsewhere.
Still need to redo the sub-domains, but I can't remember what I need to do for them and can't be arsed trying to wake my brain up enough to figure it out at the moment. Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: Galmort on September 29, 2006, 11:31:52 PM *doesn't notice a thing*
very good.. /2 cents Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: matt_the_shark on October 03, 2006, 01:29:07 AM .co.uk isn't working for me, but .net is fine :)
Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: SS on October 03, 2006, 10:13:56 PM Quote .co.uk isn't working for me, but .net is fine I was about to say "everything should be working fine, except for forums.bpsite.co.uk which is getting stuck on a cPanel page", but then I double checked and now the main bpsite.co.uk isn't resolving any more. :(I hate DNS! Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: matt_the_shark on October 05, 2006, 01:20:40 AM hehe, I just went in and ruined everything :)
Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: SS on October 05, 2006, 09:27:28 PM Blasted shark. :P
Ok, now everything except the forums.bpsite.co.uk sub-domain should be working now (or withing 24 hours). I'm not sure what's wrong with the sub-domain - I double checked the config and it looks okay, but it's still doing the "no website configured" error, so I've probably missed something. Anyhow, I've just asked on my hosts support forums about that, and they're usually prompt and helpful so hopefully I'll have that fixed by tomorrow too. :) Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: SS on October 05, 2006, 10:28:10 PM Okay, forums.bpsite.co.uk should be finally working.
(and now that it's going straight from 123-reg->NetHosted, rather than Easily->CFDynamics->NetHosted as before, it should be more reliable too) Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: Lord Lanair on October 06, 2006, 06:26:43 AM Meh, I just have the forums bookmarked, and it always seems to work for me (I swear it used to be .co.uk, then automatically switched to .net). :P

Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: mole on October 06, 2006, 07:45:20 PM its still old.bpsite.net
Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: ns33 on October 10, 2006, 02:35:08 AM bpsite.co.uk/forums returns an 404 error :(
Title: Potential domain oddities Post by: Hornet on October 10, 2006, 04:24:37 AM That's not a 404 - it's the lack of the "www." that causes the issue, as apparently SS's hosts can't be bothered to set their servers up properly. Observe a strict fast for one week, sacrifice a chicken at full moon with a sacred sickle, add the www., and you're on your way. (http://www.bpsite.co.uk/forums) |
