Hmm, all I know about Exeter is where it is.

Best thing to do to help cut down on the evil D-word is take out the maximum student loan you can, and put as much as you can afford in a high-interest savings account (eg: ISA) then you can potentially make money with it.

I have a friend at Southampton... at least, what's left of it.  (The University, not the friend)

alrighty, american schools 101:

1.  Preschool:  nothing much

2.  Elementary school (primary school):  teaches the basics, reading, writing, add/subtract/multiply etc.

3.  Middle School (aka Junior High):  more advanced subjects, basically a prep for high school (secondary school)

4.  High School (Secondary school):  advanced subjects, college prep, etc

5.  College/University

There, very basic, very simple.  :)

preschool for us is something parents decide whether to put theyre children into or not it comes before education really, then school starts at 3/4 years

plus don't you guys go a year more than us? i know in germany they do, and i figured all of europe did..but maybe not?

depends what you do. compulsory education finishes at 16, further education (a-levels) finishes at 18 and higher education (degrees) can go on for 3-6 years more after that

Post by: Galmort on August 22, 2006, 05:53:35 AM
a-levels are optional?

we can get out at 16 with parents' permission, which nobody does. cause you can't do anything with a highschool diploma..

Yup.

Though the only people that don't do them are either stupid people, or people wanting to do something that doesn't require pointless qualifications and has hands-on training, such as becoming a car mechanic.

ive thought of becoming a mechanic recently, i want a job that ill enjoy more.

most people who finish both years of A-level go to university too

I got my AS results a few days ago - a B and three As (although one of the As is only an AS level, so I won't be doing it at A2). The B is caused by getting two As and a C over three Sociology exams, so I'm going to hopefully re-take the one that I got a C for and try to get it up to a B or an A, resulting in an overall A.

Overall, I'm happy.  :hehe:

I'm hoping to do combined Psychology and English Literature at university. Swansea looks rather appealing, but it's very far away, which is being complained about by friends and relatives. There are nearer places, but the courses don't look as good. Sulk sulk sulk.  :hmmm:

My version:   :-P

1.  Preschool (Optional, one year): Social interactions, fine motor skills and separation with parents

2.  Kindergarten (One year):  The alphabet, basic reading/writing, numbers, introduction to homework.

3.  Elementary school / Primary School (Five years):  Reading, writing, math (adding, subtraction, multiplication).

4.  Middle School / Junior High (Three years):  more advanced subjects (history, algebra, geometry, science, literature), basically a prep for high school

5.  High School / Secondary school (Four year):  advanced subjects (like international studies, trigonometry, calculus), college prep, etc

6.  College/University

It's interesting to note that it is possible to test out of High School (Secondary School), the GRE which it's really worth as much as a high school diploma, but it opens the possibility to step up to a community college then to State or University before others of the same age group could by fallowing the 'normal' system.
good times

Bleh, I think GED's are foolish... not many colleges accept them in lieu of diplomas, and who would want to go to a community college for 2 years, then try to get into a 4 year college? :miffed:

my main reason of doing 4 more years is just so i can leave home

Speaking of leaving home, I've left home... I'm now living out of a hotel room that's been made into a dorm like arrangement.  I have to take a bus to the forest.  "Why?" you ask, "Why do you take the bus to the forest?".  The answer is simple, because that's where my school is.  UCSC: University of California, Santa Cruz. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_California%2C_Santa_Cruz)
