Well, the answer is... 2 months of Christmas.  <_<

2 Months? You've been able to buy Christmas stuff since August. :/

yea, i did say this and got told off! its rediculas, most places will be putting decorations up in the next 2 weeks!!!

its a good time, the winter itself is whats depressing. as long as you keep christmas planned, it won't get too hectic. otherwise yea, it is crazy

i love winter but can't stand christmas.  All that shopping and decorating.  Yuck

I have to agree with some of this, sort of…  I don’t know what to get other people, and I don’t know what I want other people to get me…
Even when I do have everything in order, I end up getting depressed about christmas anyways…

and I only have a month and a half left of classes (my finals are on the week of the 12th) :o

I was going through some paperwork for transferring and I stop a sentence short.  The effect is that I thought I wasn’t going to meet the minimum requirements for getting into the university.

If this isn't cliched enough, the real meaning of Christmas was lost a long time ago.

It's for getting family and friends together and having a good time :)

Yeah well, that's not the real meaning.  The actual words me Christ's birth, but we have to be so damn politically correct that we can't mention religion.  It's all about Santa now.

the tradition of giving gifts in the winter is not unique...

but everybody tosses around the term "Christmas" like it's nothing.

Christ wasn't born at Christmas though - he was born in September. But the Roman's wanted to convert Pagan's to their faith, so they celebrated it on the winter solstice.

Santa Claus originated from a generous Dutch bishop, named Sint Nicolaas in the Netherlands, but contracted to Sinterklaas and eventually modified to Santa Claus.


Eitherway, it has definitely been over-commercialised, as has Halloween, Easter, and pretty much everything. :(

yeah I know about the whole thing about Jesus not being born in winter.  I haven't had time to go into that yet.  I'm losing interest in my church because all the people that go there do not hold my attention for more than five seconds or they just make fun of me.

Though why bother with church at all?
I don't mean that in an atheist/anti-Christian sense - even if you believe that the Bible is more or less correct and decide you want to worship Yahweh, what's the point in a/the church?

i know i would get lazy and not do anything about my faith. its kind of like a buddy system for alcoholics or druggies or women and getting mamograms :P  plus more but meh, i can't convince ss

Something about fellowship and having people of God to relate to rather than people who corrupt you.  But that's kind of bologna since practically everyone is at least a little corrupt, and I don't particularly relate to anybody at my church.  

It's like going to a convention.  You already know that just about everyone there has a similar disposition to yourself.  Well, in my experience anyway.

No it's just that they're kind of immature in a really bad way that I can't stand it.  That's why I don't exactly like to go.

Well, I've recently discovered that a big reason I go to church is for the music... who cares about the people?  Oh, wait...  LOL  

The music at my church is old people hymns :(

And what's wrong with hymns? I think they're much better than most of the music coming out today.   :P

The music sucks!  I've been dragged there on numerous occaisions and it wouldn't be bad if they just read their bits and let us go but they spend atleast 45 minutes of each mass singing!

 i didn't get dragged there to hear some wench wailing about how much she loves jesus (sure she has talent ,but at 8:30 in the morning I don't want to hear anything other than "large?" in response to my mutterings of coffee).  

If you love him so much why don't you grace his ears and ours with a lovely bit of silence?! [/rant]

I've never really gone to church
I was in some sort of honor guard (boy scouts) bring in flags (I have no idea why...), but they kicked us out after not too long
The bitch boy scout leader tried to convert us too (different sect)... which met with utter failure, and is seriously against scout rules. :hmmm:  

black gospel choirs are pretty good, but white ones suck, they're too boring

some hymns are ok, but for the most part, not loud enough/slow and boring :/
