Title: Sea of Cortez
Post by: smi256 on July 15, 2005, 05:24:48 PM
I'm leaving for La Paz Mexico today (7/15/05), to go snorkeling in the Sea of Cortez!  Just about the whole trip will be spent on (around) a catamaran (last time I was on a 50-footer sailboat).  My major worry ATM is if I’ll be in good company and if there will be people my age on the trip…Well, I guess I would worry about the hurricane warnings as well… but the good thing about what I’ll worrying about is that I can do nothing about any of it, I’ll just have the wait and see how it turns out.
I sorta think it’d be cool to see some really heather; we don’t get any of that sort of thing in cali.
I'm also missing a week of summer school ... owell, c programming was being boring anyway.

I’ll be back on the 24th , adios
 :sheep:

I guess this means I'm not dead  :D
though there are some that might be thinking "damn, he's not dead <_< "

a few of us on the trip were making sort of a day-to-day events/story log, if I get my hands on it I'll type some of it up :hehe:
note: "I saw them!! I saw the "no-see-'ems"!!!  and they took a bit of blood from me." :miffed: damn little suckers :hmmm: (no really, they are damn little, and they do suck in more then one way)

They aren’t mosquitoes in this case… but a blood sucking black and gray gnat, maybe (less then) a millimeter long and less then that wide.  When they bite it feels like the tinniest of pin pricks, leaving no marks (yet).  About half a day after I got bit, the bites would become small flat red circles about half a centimeter in diameter; which would go away in another half a day’s time.  It wasn’t till the next day (two days after I got bit) that they all swelled up (about a centimeter in diameter) and started to itch (reminds me of when my cats had fleas *cries* I’m allergic to them).  It took a week for them to stop itching, even with oral and topical antihistamines.  Even now, a full two weeks after I got bitten up, I have very faint red marks.
Damage: both hands, upper chest, back, left hip, both knees

I ended up with the nick name, “Measle Man”
Side Story:
When I was on clean up crew, I had to do the dishes (pre-wash with sea water).  We were anchored in a cove and the sun had yet to set.  The wind had swiveled the catamaran so that I was in the sun, I started to overheat, so I grabbed someone’s towel (it just so happened to be pink) and draped it over me as I washed dishes.  It wasn’t till I was almost done that I started thinking, “It’s Measle Man wearing his pink Measle Cape!!”…  I was sort of glad that most of the people were off snorkeling (even though I wanted to go too) so that they didn’t hear me, but me and one or two people on the boat had a good laugh over it.
Humility is a very important part of my humor…

There are three crews: Deck, Cooking, and Cleaning.  Every day it rotates.  But because all the men were on one chew… we ended up having to help the other crews when they were assigned to the deck.  So we were at least half deck crew all the time, which was alright due to everyone trying to keep things clean, and everyone one helping with the cooking.

Heh niiiiiiice.  But, I thought you were going on less of an expedition and more of a cruise... you know, the ones where you sleep in a chair all day and get waited on 24/7.  LOL

Umm… no.  this is a 40 something foot, 10 person catamaran, with 12 people including an adrenalin driven, brain damaged, over exaggerating captain…
