Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Galmort on November 30, 2004, 06:23:33 AM I've recently been sucked in by the addictiveness of this game. Who here plays regularly? I think it would be cool to hook up on there and see what you've got...AIM Galmort if you ever want to.
Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Arkanor on November 30, 2004, 07:10:14 AM I play pretty much regularly... I use a number of names, i.e. West, Zeronax, Arkanor, etc. As to my skill, it varies with the lag. On some servers I look like I just started playing, but on others I have 60:15 ratios. Unfortunately, my favorite (read: fastest) servers are converting to Source, so I'll probably have to acquire that illegally somehow. Anyone know a download site for it?

I doubt it will be that easy. I've read that Valve are killing all suspicious Steam accounts, and you can't play it except through Steam, so... Title: Counter-Strike Post by: RipperRoo on November 30, 2004, 05:16:33 PM Just buy Halflife 2, its easily worth it.
Title: Counter-Strike Post by: mole on November 30, 2004, 05:18:24 PM have they done anything to make steam user friendly now?
Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Guest:SS on November 30, 2004, 07:02:13 PM mole, don't be silly - Valve care about getting money, not about making things easy for gamers. :P
Ripper - you finished it yet? I've read lots of people being dissapointed with the ending & how short the game is. Title: Counter-Strike Post by: RipperRoo on November 30, 2004, 09:27:37 PM Yea well they suck.
Lasted me... 20 ish hours on Normal. So around average for an FPS. Nothing wrong with the ending, they only moan cause they waited 6 years and its a cliffhanger, they cant be arsed to wait for HL3, which should come quicker cause they arent going to redesign the whole engine again, infact I think most of its gonna stay the same, models and such, just gonna do a kinda of expansion pack, but with the rest/more of the story. Endings nice anyway, you get to decide what happens rather than it being shown to you. Steam always has been "User Friendly" it just sucks. :| Title: Counter-Strike Post by: mole on November 30, 2004, 09:51:17 PM its by no means mod friendly, running a custom server is so painful
Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Daimao on November 30, 2004, 10:46:22 PM You all suck
Steam is great It's so freaking easy too If you want to run a server, just make sure you open the right ports... It still has some problems with "friends" but overall steam is really good It had it's problems during its first beta's but works like a charm now Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Galmort on December 01, 2004, 04:25:23 AM man keep this about playing counter-strike...i'm an addict as i said, so IM Galmort to play me
Title: Counter-Strike Post by: RipperRoo on December 01, 2004, 05:18:32 PM Yea, friends sucks cock.
The reason I hate it mostly, is because I get Authentication errors every time I try to connect to a CS:S server, I have to type retry over 20 times just to get on. Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Guest:SS on December 01, 2004, 06:41:04 PM Quote Yea, friends sucks cock. Is that Rug or mole?*runs and hides* ;) Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Rug on December 01, 2004, 06:44:14 PM Quote Is that Rug or mole? Title: Counter-Strike Post by: RipperRoo on December 02, 2004, 12:22:04 AM They really need to sort its lag problems. :/
Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Arkanor on December 02, 2004, 01:13:39 AM Who else here hates friendly fire? Almost every single time it's on, I hose some guy down in a confined space, stop firing to lure him out, line up a head shot, and then my own team grenades me.
Or, I'm guarding something, crouched down, and a newbie runs up and emptys his clip into me because I have a weapon from the other team. Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Guest on December 02, 2004, 01:21:36 AM I'm ussually the one doing the friendly fire LOL
Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Daimao on December 02, 2004, 10:25:52 PM Quote They really need to sort its lag problems. :/ lag comes from the servers, not from steam Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Arkanor on December 03, 2004, 05:48:05 AM Yep. Although if your computer is a piece or junk and/or has a slow internet connection, you'll get horrible lag too.
Title: Counter-Strike Post by: Guest:SS on December 03, 2004, 02:20:45 PM Quote lag comes from the servers, not from steam Lag can come from any of three places:1 - the server machine not being able to cope with the load. 2 - the connection between oneself and the server not passing packets quickly enough. 3 - one's own machine not being able to receive & understand packets quickly enough. All three of resulting from either inefficient technology (not enough CPU/RAM, or bandwidth), or over-used technology (too many players/users). But I'm guessing mole probably means the amount of time it takes to sign-in to Steam/etc. Title: Counter-Strike Post by: RipperRoo on December 03, 2004, 06:35:46 PM Quote Lag can come from any of three places: He means "the" lag, not any lag... 1 - the server machine not being able to cope with the load. 2 - the connection between oneself and the server not passing packets quickly enough. 3 - one's own machine not being able to receive & understand packets quickly enough. (I haven't done a scientific study to prove that :P)
Title: Counter-Strike Post by: RipperRoo on December 03, 2004, 10:59:02 PM As it had just come out, people were using listen servers or setting up dedicated on home PCs, this meant that pings were over 300 on most servers.
Now there are some dedicated ones around, which have much better pings. |
