Title: Stopping ads Post by: Everous on March 13, 2004, 09:01:25 PM a good while back, SS made a comprehensive post about how to stop adverts by editing some IE file to block the server or something like that. At the time I didn't really take much notice but it would really be useful now...so if anyone has it, or if SS can remember what it was about...I'd appreciate any help

This is XP and it works fine, but it should work with any Windows. Try searching for "hosts" in with WinKey+F. the list you posted, is that a list of the place the popups will come from? or the site you go to when they pop-up? I hope you understand, because i went to originalicons.com and got a pop-up after i added that to the list... If a website you visit pops up, you right-click on it and select properties. On the "Address: (URL)£ section you copy the entire value (which might span multiple lines - click three times to select it all) and paste it into the file with a dummy value (127.0.0.1) before it. I'm sorry but you're being incredibly stupid here. :P The Address (Its proper name being URL) is http://www.bidclix.net/PopUps/Popup113.jsp?nl=5&p=9176&cat=36 Triple-click the bidclix bit and it will select it all.
