I'm gonna have to wait a while to see it.  Probably the weekend after this one.  The only day this weekend I could see it is Sunday because of basketball and my friend who I promised to see it with (since we saw the first two together) is unavailable.  Then I have Monday, Tuesday, and Christmas Eve basketball filled.  Not gonna see it on Christmas.  That brings us to Friday the 26th as the earliest I'll see it.  Major bummer.  I should get my tickets fairly soon.  $9.00 a pop, but only $6.50 if you go to a matinee (at or before 6 PM).

I relate, my friend can't go because he has wrestling, but he told me to go anyway, so I'm going with my Dad, who's been reading LOTR since the 70s.

Wow, expensive there.  only $4.50 for a matinee here.

uh ill have to wait a long time till i can see it..*grumbles*..

By the way, I'd appreciate it if anyone who DOES see the movie doesn't say anything about it unless you warn us.  Even then I discourage it because I'll be tempted to read it even though I don't want to.

Eek!  I saw it! It rocks! OMG!  But don't worry Thamior, no spoilers...yet.

If you havent seen it yet, GO SEE IT!! You're ubercool if you see the midnight showing, cool if you see it within 24 hours of initial release, uncool if you see it 24 hours AFTER the release, and a pariah if you see it after 2 days.  <_< SO GO OUT AND SEE THE MOVIE!!!

Seriously, I think it rivals The Godfather and even Star Wars.  :o  :o ITS THAT GOOD!

theres really no need at all...i just turned up on wednesday (first day showing) 20 minutes early at the cinema and got my seat, it was fairly empty so I got some dead center seats...

and I live in Birmingham (UK) so you know...you'd expect it to be packed...but its just not

if its anything like the book then i'll know what happens

However they are taking out a main part, but cuz i'm kind i won't tell

LOL. no.  I wouldn't use 2 accounts because then my posts count would be spread out and I wouldn't like that.  

There's a LOTR triology marathon id downtown DC this weekend. 13 and a half hours of movie over a 16 hour period. I'd say my weekend just got booked... SOLID

i might try to see it this evening, but i havent booked any tickets, i think i'll just drop by like 10 mins  before a movie starts and get sum of the reservated tickets that weren't taken like i allways do (we allways get the best seats that way and i live less then 5 mins from a movie theater by bike, so doesn't reall matter if there aren't any)

saw it wednesday... we had to pre-book tickets.. and even all of those except one showing were sold out when we got them.

it was great!  i highly recommend it... and i uhh...  never read the books.  who has that kind of time anyway?

I feel hella sorry for my friend; her teacher told her the ending when she hasn't seen the movie or even read the books.

yes. i pre-ordered tickets. had them for about a week before the showing.


i saw the first showing i could right after school so at least im cool. but my brother went to the midnight showing and went to school later that day. got about one hour of sleep he said :miffed:

i think so. i read somewhere that the actor who plays saramon was cut out of the movie as well.

Both are correct, but they had to just to squeeze everything else in.  They barely fit it in the 3 hours and 20 minutes as it is.  But I do know Saruman and some other material will be in the extended edition, but I think the scouring is gone permanently.  Film is a different genre than books.  Moviegoers tend to not stand for anything anticlimatic. Oh well.  We still know it's there.

I just finished watching it...oOoWHEE...is it awesome...OK...I won't say any more...PROMISE.  *stabs needle in eye*

also, i heard that saramon will still be in the movie, but only in the dvd edition as a cut out scene.

Yay!  I just saw it again!  It's even better the second time...

Saruman is only in the extended edition, not the theatrical edition.

thought the end was too corny though.. and the fight-scènes way too blurry.. didn't like the fact that legolas had to 'surf' again also.. nevertheless, great film ;)  

It sucked they totally chainsawed the end of the book.
They floated more and more away from the books as they went though the movies.
All those scenes that draged on that needent have could have ben cut short, and they could have put the PROPER ending into it.

And at the tower in the last and this one Where the hell was wormtounge?

I only counted four and a half endings... And after watching it 4 times, I would KNOW if all the endings were there...  <_<  <_< Maybe that's why the end was so long, Drauka?

the proper ending is supposed to be in the extended version.  you'll just have to wait
 

well, if they hadnt put that stupid ass beginning there, then they might have been able to do it right. i mean, the beginning was even a bit confusing for me at first, and i had read the book b4.

don't tell me about it, because i havn't seen it yet.  my plans to see it saturday were ruined because of me getting so sick :(

hehe, the daily show was cracking on one of the first showings around new york, because so many people were wearing wizard hats, it was hard to see the actual movie.

I cant tell you how uncool you are if you're seeing it a week after, Matt. I think I'm just going to stop talking to you until you've seen all three movies at least twice.

I just saw it tonight.  I liked it a lot.  I'm just mad that I'll never get to see another LotR movie.  I didn't have to wait as long as I expected to wait before I could see it.

Saw it midnight on the 17th.. or some people would say 16th, though 17th is correct ;] I prefered the book, just as I do with all books which become movies, but I still think that it was great. especially if you watch the extended versions of fellowship & two towers before going to see ROTK.. but damn your ass hurts afterwords. Anyhow, I agree it was stretched and could have been better. Whatever, I enjoyed it none the less ;) Glad to see people have taken a true interest in LOTR, i really hate it when people read a book just because they saw the movie.. it should be the other way around, but I guess it is a way of getting kids to read books they would never normally touch due to their size :)

Watch the commentary in FOTR and TTT extended DVDs, especially with the cast and directors. The "making" on each set generally applies only to that movie, although there are clips from the others (like ROTK in TTT). JUST GET IT DAMMIT!!

oooo my dad just got the two towers special weirdness and it came with a smeagol  statue thingy. he soo cute(in a tortured soul kinda way, not in the rip his loin cloth off way)

That edition is $20 more expensive than just the video... How big is the figure anyway, and is that all that comes with it?

umm lemme find a tape measure.  its really friggin awesome.  smeagol is holding a fish :)   ummm I guessing it to be about five inches tall. couldnt find a tape measure.

and it also comes with a  small book and movie on gollum.  and a bunch of special features disks about the making of the movie and all that stuff.

Yeah, I got the extended edition collector's set the day it came out.  It's pretty awesome.  I haven't calculated it for the TTT edition yet, but I know for the FOTR extended edition there was about 30+ hours of material besides the movie itself.  Absolutely wonderful for the true LOTR geek, but probably a little too much for the casual admirer.  :P

I hadn't heard that the scouring was going back in.  I know other stuff, but I'm not sure about this, cuz when they returned it showed them riding in in all their armour and it was all green and stuff, and it was supposed to be when they got back.  And according to some articles I read and stuff I don't think they ever planned to include it.  Film is just too much of a different genre than a book.  Film watchers never stand for much of a conflict after the main conflict.  It's too 'anticlimatic'.  Yell all you want, but PJ was making a film, not just a memorial to a book, and he made the decisions that made the best film he could, even if it meant changing things from the book.

And  I think TTT deviated from the books even more than ROTK did, but that's just me....

I really like what you said about Jackson making the best movie he possibly could without worrying about paying tribute to the books.  I loved the movie.  I'll never read the books.  I couldn't care any less if the movie was inaccurate to the books.  And I hate when people say stuff like "Oh, the books were so much better than the movie," when they know you haven't read the books, just so they can feel superior.  IT'S NOT MY FAULT I CAN'T READ IF NOBODY EVER TAUGHT ME!  :(   The movie...is always better than the book.  :P  

Depends what you mean from "deviate" because there's tons of different factors that are tossed into the work place when you're going from book to film. Yes, there will be added scenes that never happened in the book, and yes, there will be important scenes from the book deleted in the movie. But the point of the MOVIE is for the viewer to enjoy it in context of the book. Important scenes from the book that are incorporated into the movie might kill the movie, which defeats the point of making a film in the first place. Check disk 3 of TTT, I think its chapter 13 or 14 where they talk about book vs film.

Cavalry Charges; all 3 of em. Eowyn vs Witch King, mainly because the Witch King is cool. Minas Morgul.

its hardly a versus though is it  :( its fun and the way she does it but it doesnt last long

the book doesnt interest me now, im sur eif i read it before maybe but, i know the beggining, i know the end, details dont matter once youve seen nearly 12 hours of film

I thought the fight between Eowyn and the Witchking was not as exciting as in the book. I liked Shelob and i liked the charge of the Rohirrim  

im with matt all the charges were cool, and loved all the fight scenes.

the appearence and graphics of the eagles was beautiful though

just saw it.  awesome really awesome. they did such a great job on all of that.  my brother and dad were talking about  how they left some important stuff out but since I didnt read the books its perfect for me :)


oh yeah and viggo is a sexy beatch.  just thought I'd toss that in there. and in white font so you are less likely to see it.

ow and i liked the part where all the orcs slaughtered each other :P altho it was not really in the movie, but twas quite a good idea to solve the problem like that, reminds me a bit of monthy pythons search for the holy grail, altho it's completely different

some of my friends were saying that Frodo seemed to have a thing for Sam but in the book it just is about friendship. What do you guys think?
