Title: Fantasy book
Post by: smi256 on December 07, 2003, 05:25:53 AM
I’m not sure what are good books or not, so I’m posting to get some suggestions.  I like character development, and plot mostly…I’ve already read R.A. Salvatore’s Drizzt series, maybe some of the like would be good.  Like a said, I really don’t know…

LOL ripper having freinds and schools to go to has nothing to do with it.

It means we dont have 24 hours to read...

For instance, getting up, going to school, getting home, takes till just gone 4 for me.
Lots of homework/ coursework can take an hour or 2. Then we eat. If I go out doing things with freinds that takes even more time.
Meaning I could have no reading time atall.

So how does that have no affect on the amount of time you have to read?

I agree with Anna here. I read for an hour before going to bed, and managed The Fires of Heaven in 5 days.

The most and fastest I’ve gone through books was last summer; three trilogies in about a month… That only happens when I have a lot of time, and it’s a good book.
Question:  Wheel of Time and The Eye of the World aren’t written like Dune right?  That was really a hard book for me to get through, the author went on and on about this one room, and Paul didn’t even do anything in there.  It’s great and all to have a vision and to describe it, but to take several pages to do so…

No no, nothing like Dune.

Here - I'll break copyright laws especially for you:
Quote
For all that spring should have come a good month since, the wind carried an icy chill as if it would rather bear snow.
Gusts plastered Rand al'Thor's cloak to his back, whipped the earth-colored wool around his legs, then streamed it out behind him. He wished his coat were heavier, or that he had worn an extra shirt. Half the time when he tried to tug the cloak back around him it caught on the quiver swinging at his hip. Trying to hold the cloak one handed did not do much good anyway; he had his bow in the other, an arrow nocked and ready to draw.
As a particularly strong blast tugged the cloak out of his hand, he glanced at his father over the back of the shaggy brown mare. He felt a little foolish about wanting to reassure himself that Tam was still there, but it was that kind of day.
The wind howled when it rose, but aside from that, quiet lay heavy on the land. The soft creak of the exle sounded loud by comparison. No birds sang in the forest, no squirrels chittered from a ranch. Not that he expected them, really; not this spring.

A much easier style to read than Dune, yes?

More important than a WoT prelude when I want Book-11 in my hands now, yes. :P

Haha, got another year or so to wait for that one. But I'm guessing the prelude was made so that you'd better understand some things that happen in book 11?

Oooh, good point. He might be wanting to introduce complex themes but doesn't want to waste time explaining them for people who might be bored by in-depth explanation, so he goes back in time to introduce them, thus making everyone happy. :D

{{optimism}} \o/

I know some good books you would probably like  ;)

You should check out the Dragonlance Saga, if you haven't already.  But start at the beggining or you will be very confused

Dragon's of an Autumn Twilight  <---  First one (I think)
