Title: WoT Discussion / Debate
Post by: Rug on July 10, 2003, 08:44:45 AM
Okay, if you have not read the entire Wheel of Time series DO NOT READ ANY OF THIS THREAD

Spoiler boxes will not be used, and we will be talking about things that will majorly spoil the story.

[blankness]

[/blankness]
Last warning.

Okay, First thing:

Who killed Asmodean?

If you can't remember, he is walking about Caemlyn looking at the holes caused by Rand and Rahvin's balefire-goodness, trying to find some wine.

He enters a room, says "You? No!" and is killed.

Who do you think did away with him, and why do you think this?

I'll post my theories after a few replies, then post the next question.

Haven't re-read that far yet, and if you think I can remember it from around three years ago, then you're wrong. :P

[Side note: Filran has NOT read the whole series, but he will read this thread. Spoilers often get his attention, unless its the end of a video game. Then he gets pissed. But anyway, he will be looking about this thread, and spoiling surprizes because he needs to. Thank you.]

..SO neither of you have any thoughts on who topped Asmodean?

Oh I do, but I forget their name.

Which book is that from anyhow? Four, five or six?

5, The Fires of Heaven.

Rand has just taken Caemlyn, having smashed the Shaido earklier in the book (And Mat decapitating Couladin)

Rand smacks Rahvin with a massive bolt of balefire, and Asmodean is looking around and musing over things that Aiel have been telling him - that they saw him die etc.

Asmodean enters a room, looking for wine, and is murdered.

Moiraine is dead by this time, so it can't have been her.

I it twas random unsuspecting subject number two, you wish to know why? He had the PERFECT alibi. And it was: He was so unimportant, he could do something important and everyone wouldn't think of him, so someone ELSE would get blamed!

Nah, definitely wasn't Moiraine... I'd say a darkfriend, possibly another Forsaken. Probably a male, but not definitely.
Asmodean was the one teaching Rand all the fancy stuff, right?

Hey... but we'll never REALLY know. Because... I think Jordan forgot all about it. LETS SEND HIM ANGRY EMAILS DEMANDING THE ANSWERS TO OUR QUESTIONS. This is like a mystery novel missing the last page, declairing who did it.

Yep, he was teaching Rand how to channel.

And, Fil... Jordan said in an interview in April that someone has worked out who it is, using the information in the books, in the way that he intended... we will learn who did it, but likely only when the person who did it is killed, or someone who knows tells us.

My real guess is Demandred. He hasn't been taken out yet, and has the wits to pull something like that off.

Of course, if Asmodean was killed with the power, Rand would have known all about it, so it was either:

A, Not Demandred. A female Forsaken perhaps - Likely Semirhage if any,

B, The Gholam...

I've been trying to find a description of what state Asmodean was in when they found him. Unless it makes any mention of disembodyment (WHich it likely doesnt, as everyone would suss it) I doubt it was the Gholam.

Anywho, me and SS have just talked that one to death - We think Demandred did it.

Next question:

Is Moiraine actually dead?

Eh. I don't think so. My head just adamantly says no at Moiraine and dead in the same sentance. Don't know why.

I've noticed something. Usually with names with of in them, it has an a as the second letter, eception of Ishamael, which obviously Ish is one of the other words, and a continuing after the first 'word.' So, in my thought, a is of, or, at least in that type of setting?

Yeah, because of Ishamael and Sammael.

Ish being Being Betrayor
S being detroyer.
A is of
and Mael is hope. Makes sense, right?

Yes, mael = Hope.

But:
Ish/isha = betrayor.
Sam = destroyer.

The 'a' can be 'of', as can 'al', 'an', 'd', 'far', etc.

Ish (Betrayer) a (of) mael (Hope)
Sam (Destroyer) ((of)) mael (hope)
Ba (Heart) 'Al (of the) Zamon (dark)
Shaidar (Shadow) Haran (Hand, of the)
