Hmm, another topic. I do seem to be starting a lot of them lately.

Anyway. I'm currently trying to badger Louise into learning The Specialists, as we're going to be attending a LAN party soon, and it'd be better for her to learn in advance.

This made me think of organising a BPSite online game (in general, not TS (although that could be good)), and wondered what suitable games people have, or can acquire.  So, what games would people suggest?  It needs to be relatively low spec, to allow everyone to play it.  And since we'll be playing online, unless we want to faff around with VPN stuff, legal copies would be good. Smiley

Also, I'm after ideas for LAN party games in general; HL1, Unreal Tournament (eep, she needs to learn that one too ), StarCraft, WarCraft III etc.  So please mention any favourites that you have.

You can get Neverwinter Nights + both expansion packs + 2 premium modules for £20 now. It'll run on any 4 year old computer.

Also, World of Warcraft runs surprisingly well on old systems, too, even without the graphics turned down. *Gets lynched for suggesting it*.

Other gooduns are: any Command and Conquer game (You can get the 'The First Decade' box of every one ever released for £30 now, and all of the ones I've tried online still have full client and server support - that's a tonne of RTS fun and a shoddy FPS), MechCommander 2 (think they suspended online support for that, though, would have to be direct connect), Age of Empires # (any of them are good for an online spin), and Titans of Steel: Warring Suns (which costs about £5 and is a very good turn based strategy game. Quite fast based for a turn based game, even with 4 or 5 players)

If we're talking free, abandonware sorta stuff.. you can never go far wrong with Final Liberation, imho.

gunbound or rakion, both at softnyx.net, both free, both easy to learn, both difficult to master.

if not, C&C or Warcraft II or StarCraft Broodwars

I used to be pretty decent at gunbound  , which is moderately embarrassing considering how craptastic i'm at it now.

I'd suggest RtcW:Enemy Territory, although I think you need a computer that was around for the last 3-4 years for it to run decently.

lemme know if you ever gonna poker against eachother, i'm quite hooked on poker lately (mostly playing cash games for like 5 euro a night against the friends i live in a house with) and playing some play money games on the net (and i dled Howard Lederers World Championship Poker 2 lately, great game to help you master the game, as you can earn stuff that shows you hand strength and pot odds of the hands you have)

so mail me if it's ever gonna happen, it'd be more fun to play against you guys then against random people Smiley
