181  BPSITE / BPSITE Headquarters / Saddam Hussein, Mr. on: July 01, 2004, 07:07:05 PM
A number of reasons.

First, Saddam siezed power in Iraq, ordering the executions of many of his opponents.  That's several hundred (or maybe thousand) counts of murder right there.

Second, to maintain and retain that power his regime indulged in torture, terror tactics, violations of human rights, etc.  Crimes against humanity, for which he is being tried by the Iraqis right now.

Third, Saddam is responsible for thousands of deaths in ethnic cleansing operations against the Kurds, the marsh-people, etc.  More crimes against humanity.

Fourth, Saddam amassed and used biological weapons of mass destruction, if not against our troops in Operation Iraqi Freedom then in the Iran/Iraq conflict, and also certainly as part of his ethnic cleansing programs.

I'd say he merits the death penalty.  Life in prison seems too mild a fate for someone like Saddam.

You know, I half expect something like that to happen.  I say we should just toast his arse in the electric chair and move on.
183  BPSITE / BPSITE Headquarters / Strikethrough on: July 01, 2004, 06:13:51 PM
Gee, thanks Ripper

Alright, thanks SS.  That would probably be under board styles or somewhere in there.
184  BPSITE / BPSITE Headquarters / Strikethrough on: July 01, 2004, 05:14:58 PM
SS, there's a strikethrough tag here that I can't find on most other forums.  It's Text here.  It's an interesting tag, and I like the effects, but I can't figure out how to get it on another forum [where I am the root admin].  If you don't mind, what exactly is the code for that?

The server is being upgraded today.  And probably tommorrow as well.  With luck, this will be the promised upgrade which allows more than 200 people to be logged in at the same time.

Note: the current Round began May 9, and resets August 9.
186  BPSITE / Games and Gaming / Master of Medieval Times on: June 13, 2004, 12:57:20 AM
Age 3 ended for MoMT, and Age 4 started.  Just posting for the hell of it, and also to bragnote that I made it into the high scores for Age 3 - most AP.  I'm going to try and make it into the Age 4 High Scores as well, but I might lose all interest before that happens.

There used to be a TGA alliance there, run by NS33.  Is that still there?
187  The Great Alliance / The Great City / Attack Turns on: June 13, 2004, 12:51:40 AM
I have over 2k as well, since KoC is frigging boring.
188  BPSITE / Games and Gaming / Legend Arena on: May 28, 2004, 01:28:06 AM
Yeah, you're right.  Ok then...

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The game is set an a mythological world, in which you, the player, begin as a level 1 player.  This means that all of your skills are set at level 1, you have 10 stamina (the equivalent of attack points) and 100 endurance (maximum stamina amount), and whatever the starting life is (I think it's 50).

---------------------------------------------------------

Turns: a 'turn' is every 20 minutes.  Every turn, you get a certain amount of money (it's trivial, I'm level 9 and I get 189 credits per turn).  You also get 1 stamina (again, the equivalent of attack points).  Every 24 hours the clock resets, and you are awarded 5 fishing operations (used to fish, equivalent of attack points for fishing only, 10 tokens (used for gambling, equivalent of attack points for gambling only, and 20 gold coins (used to buy a boat in fishing, or for a clan to level up)

----------------------------------------------------------------

To become stronger, you must attack other players.  If you succeed in vanquishing them, you steal a portion of their experience and some of their gold (like Kings of Chaos in that respect).  If you are defeated, you lose a portion of your experience and some of your gold.  The more gold you have, the more you lose.  This applies to being  attacked and losing as well as attacking and losing.

Once you have gained a certain amount of experience, you advance a level.  At each level-up, you are awarded four ability points and 8 skill points.  The ability points can be used as follows:

+1 strength              -               equates to doing more damage

+1 agility                  -             equates to having your enemy miss a blow when attacking you    (no damage done)

+5 life              -               plus 5 maximum life points (think HP... it regenerates every 5 minutes to its maximum, or you can pay a small fee and regenerate it.  When you die, you have 'lost' a fight.  Fortunately, you can heal yourself, or wait 5 minutes and be automatically healed)

+5 Endurance         -           The maximum number of stamina (attack points) that you can have.  After you reach this maximum, no more stamina will be gained until you expend some.)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The skill points can be put toward fishing (money-making), luck (part of gambling, money-making), critical strike (do HUGE damage occasionally), income (more money every 20 minutes), or stealth (steal more money when victorious).

----------------------------------------------------------------------

You can purchase an item for yourself if you have enough money.  Items include armor, shield, helmet, weapon, charm (ability boost), and potion (temporary fighting skill boost).  Equipping better weapons allows you to deal more damage.  Better armor/helmet/shield cuts down on damage which can hurt you.  A potion gives you a temporary boost to fighting abilities such as strength and agility.  A charm is a permanent ability boost, but it's usually VERY expensive.

(Note: you cannot purchase charms until you have been victorious in 500 fights)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fishing and gambling are, as I said, for money making.

There's a little bit more, but I won't mention it as it deals mostly with clans and other such.
189  BPSITE / Games and Gaming / Legend Arena on: May 27, 2004, 12:39:11 AM
This is a text-based RPG... not very deep.  Go out and fight other players, gain XP to level up, steal their gold, etc.  Some nice points include fishing to make money, using attributes points to develop a fighting style, and clan blnuses (if you have a good clan).  In addition, the Inktank Army is in it, as a clan called Inktank Empire.  Cynic is the clan leader there.  (reference their forum topic here.

LOL... sorry, I meant your Medieval Battles account name.  And never mind, you told me already.

Question: is it me, or is it about 1 minute of playing and 4 minutes of ticks?
191  The Great Alliance / The Great City / What do you want to see in Age Three? on: May 26, 2004, 10:24:41 PM
I'd settle for sabbing back, but a better kind of sabbing than the Age 2 type.  It was too easy for people with huge spy skills to own everyone else (witness Relentless!).
192  The Great Alliance / The Great City / How To Deal With An Enemy on: May 14, 2004, 01:06:12 AM
True... but then again, we haven't won a couple either.  LOL  :hehe:  LOL  :hehe:  (Remember the Relentless mass-attacks and subsequent sabbing retals?)

::Double Post::

Using the Google Search Engine for a number of random keywords, I found this:

Die Nibelungen, Part 1: Siegfried

Originally released: 1924

Lang's most grandiose undertaking, a two-part epic retelling of Teutonic legend, opens in a rhapsody of sculpted flesh and patterns of light, combined with impressive model work as Siegfried battles the dragon Fafnir. By and large, however, this first episode is monolithic in style, and a trifle stolid with it. Lang's obsessively patterned, geometric compositions transform actors in architectural features: this is, in Siegfried Kracauer's words, "the complete triumph of the ornamental over the human." Lang's mythic fatalism is here at its most clear cut, with the result that this is not among his subtlest films.

And this:

Here are a few well-known and widely appreciated recordings of the complete Ring cycle:

Georg Solti conducting the Vienna Philharmonic Opera, 1958-1965. This is the first studio recording of the complete Ring, and is enduringly popular. It is in stereo sound. [Decca/Polygram records]
Recordings from Bayreuth performances:

Easy... if you know your Norse myths.  If you don't... oh well.  I don't remember a specific movie, but the bit you mentioned is from Wagner's opera of The Ring Cycle.  You probably remember that... it's the one that's 25 hours long.

The plot you mentioned is from an Norse epic called (I believe) Sword of the Volsungs.  That particular episode is called Fafnir's Bane.  The hero's name is Sigurd, and the Dragon's name is Fafnir.  Anyway, long story short, Sigurd, who is on a quest (prodded by Regin, a dwarven smith -- no, I don't remember or really care why) to kill a Dragon named Fafnir and to take his treasure of gold.  Just before he goes out to kill the Dragon, Sigurd is advised by Odin (Norse equivalent of the Greek Zeus, Roman Jove) to dig not one, but many pits and hide in the deepest one.  For should he dig but one pit the Dragon's blood would pour all into it and drown him - but he must bathe himself completely in the blood, as it will make him invulnerable to sword-strokes.  He does so, but one leaf falls upon him, and the blood (when it pours down into his pit) does not touch that area.

Yes, he is killed later by someone who stabs/poisons/shoots him in that spot.

Also, as a matter of minor interest, Sigurd is told by Regin (brother of Fafnir, long story) to cut out Fafnir's heart, cook it, and bring it to him (Regin).  As Sigurd is cooking, the juice burns his fingers, and he sucks them in annoyance.  He then suddenly understands the speech of birds and beasts, both of which are and have been advising him to eat the heart himself and then kill Regin, who plans to kill Sigurd.  Sigurd does both these things, and gains much wisdom/knowledge from eating the Dragon's heart.  In addition, he disposes of the threat of Regin.

Also incidentally, ever see those caricatures of a fat woman wearing a horned helmet, screeching out opera songs?  That comes from The Ring Cycle, in which Sigurd's wife, Brunhilda, is featured.
