Title: Driving
Post by: Galmort on February 04, 2007, 02:59:03 AM
good stuff eh? just out drifting in the snow with a buddy of mine in my '88 accord :P . makes me love minnesota, and old cars i don't care about

what do you drive?
and what do you pull?
and how bout any traffic violations?

personally, the fastest i've driven a car at was 120 mph in my buddy's caddy, and the only time i've been pulled over was with my dad while i was only permitted. just got a warning, clean record ever since...though i swear i've been close

2000 white jeep wrangler with a four inch lift.  spice colored top, lots of fun.
I take her out mudd'n in the county east of mine (you can pretty much do whatever you want there) all the time.

only time i ever had any trouble was when i slid off the road a few years ago after i hit a patch of ice, smacked one of those gasoline price signs. no body damage, but it knocked a sensor or two out of wack.

never been caught for speeding, and now that i have these 33 inch tires, i dont think i could speed if i wanted to

Honda CBR125R (motorbike),  my baby but sadly its sitting at home in my garage waiting for me to return at easter  :(

havent really done any speeding on it as it scares the shite outta me, though i have crashed it when someone pulled at on me at point blank, i stood the bike on its nose the got catapulted off it. but its fixed now, as i was more worried about it than me.

Me mums Ford Focus, sucks. Till she gets a new car in June, yay! :D
Never been caught speeding, usually about 10mph over the limit though, managed to get it to hit 100 on a motorway, was well impressed. Steering wheel starts to shake at 85, which is worrying.

In UK/Europe we have shorter distances to travel, and a much better transport system, so less need for cars.

The British drive on the left-hand side of the road because that leaves our right arm free to swing our weapons at all the peasant scum travelling on the right-hand side of the road. :P

Well SS, how old are you / how old do you have to be to take the test in Britain?
Over here, pretty much every kid is scrambling to get their license as soon as they turn 16.

but then...you drive on the left side of the car too, meaning your right arm can't  reach out to smite said peasants :P

I'm 24, and I think the minimum limit is 17.

A fair few people do go for the test around 17/18, but I didn't bother myself when I was that age since the only place outside walking distance I went to was school, and I got the bus there, and also I guess because I wasn't encouraged to do it.

Then I went to university and in the first year there wasn't really anywhere I needed to go that wasn't easier on foot or by the uni-run bus service. Second-fourth year it might have been useful, but I was a poor student with barely enough money to eat and buy computer stuff, let alone £20+ for an hour-long driving lesson (thats $40), and I didn't particularly feel like it.

Now I've finished uni and have a real job and thus some money (but not as much as I earn; fecking thieving government!) and I only live about six minutes away from work, but there are things it'd be useful to be able to drive to - supermarket is a 25 minute walk away (for me; it'd take most people around 35 mins), my camera club is even further (I currently get a lift there), and simply going out and doing photography in interesting places would be much easier.

Huh? Whatever gave you that idea? We drive on the right side of the car over here.

Wow, I could have sworn you were older than that.

And lucky you and being able to walk.  School is 17 miles away for me, and the grocery store is 5.  Unless you live in the city you pretty much have to have your own car or carpool if you're in the US :(

Yeah, you europeans are way better at transportation i'll admit...

oh, and 20 euros does NOT equal 40 bucks, its not currently 2-1, more like 2-1.5..rather rough though, i dono. see cause we're watching it to know when is best for exchanging our u.s. money for some shabby euros...for our trip :P  does it get better around any special dates coming soon or anything crazy like that? got any tips at all for getting the most out of our money?

i'm not sure waht i just typed

Twerp.  That's wrong on more levels than I care to think about, although your country's as much to blame as you.

England happens to use the pound, and hopefully always will.  And yes, the pound is worth about two dollars, but again that's your country's fault, as it apparently can't run an education system let alone the economy.

i despise public transport i will only use it if there are no other possible ways to get somewhere, i use my bicycle more than anything as it doesnt cost (quite) as much, it better for roads than cars and its a lot healthier for me.

The important thing is to remember that we play the arrogant americans and just rant about how we bailed them out in WW2, and to NEVER EVER think about what they do for our economy.

our high percentage of voting nationalists say "NO!" to silly european legislations, hence in the UK we use the pound, in Ireland they use the euro, though they get suspicious if you try to use continental euros

interesting,

on the topic now...a few buddies and i just went out on the lake last night, pretty damn fun although it surprisingly was not that slippery. so we just stuck in the boat launch parking lot which was covered in snow and angled down towards the lake, it was a grand time and now i have snow all over my car

Heh Mole, were you in the car when I aquaplaned on the way to Sanders?
That was... exciting?
And we will never ever ever ever ever use the Euro! We're British, and will use the pound forever!
Hold on, you have a bicycle at uni?

that's why I like my huge ProComp tires. They've got treads around an inch and a half thick, so hydroplaning takes some serious work. :P

Beer, imagining you're in a car, walking down the road? I'll say... 2-4am, as it's deserted.
