Title: the weather
Post by: mole on November 05, 2006, 03:02:19 PM
Its fantastic!

this time last year we had rain and clouds and very strangley but to our delight snow! but this year.... the last 5 days have been better than most of our summer days and its brilliant1 especially for rowers, so good job people, keep using your cars and leave your lights on in the day.

Eh? It's been freezing cold here. Which makes it incredibly difficult to get out of bed. :(

Title: the weather
Post by: Hornet on November 06, 2006, 11:18:00 AM

It's quite nice at the moment.  No fog, though, which is a pity as that would have made the sunrise even better.

Post by: SS on November 06, 2006, 08:05:55 PM
Was a reasonably nice sunset last night. Wasn't up in time to see sunrise this morning though.

How long do we have to wait for the photos?

Title: the weather
Post by: Hornet on November 07, 2006, 12:49:32 PM

Later on today; I'm about to dash out now (very literally - a few more minutes and I'll find myself being physically pulled out of the house by an insistent girlfriend).

Title: the weather

Been much nicer recently on account of there being plenty of cloud to keep the temperatures up. :)

Title: the weather
Post by: mole on November 07, 2006, 09:51:16 PM
mmm it has been pretty cold here at night for the opposite reason, but thats easily combated with our friend alcohol

Title: the weather
Post by: Hornet on November 08, 2006, 01:25:15 AM

Meh, I don't touch alcohol.  Well, once in a blue moon, but not in any sort of quantity.  I have a human hot water bottle. :)
You might find these (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcohol_and_cancer#Alcohol_as_a_carcinogen_and_cocarcinogen)  interesting (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects_of_alcohol_on_the_body#Effects_by_dose) (just look at the latter list - if you didn't know the name of the chemical in question, you'd think it a poison).

(Oh, and the photos will have to wait a bit longer, but I'll hopefully be able to post them before I go to bed.)

Edit: here (http://www.garjen.co.uk/Misc/Store/1.jpg) they (http://www.garjen.co.uk/Misc/Store/2.jpg) are (http://www.garjen.co.uk/Misc/Store/3.jpg).  I haven't edited them or cleaned them up at all; just shrunken them slightly.  (They're just quick snaps (it was freezing), so please forgive the lack of quality.)  I might get some time tomorrow to clean them up a bit, but I have other priorities, so they might not appear for a while.

SS, the server time's an hour out again.  Your admins are useless. :P

Alcohol is less likely to give you cancer than going to a petrol station on a hot day

and the time has for once updated rightly for me

Apparently it's going to snow here on Tuesday.

And guess where I'm going to be on Monday. :) It's snowing (http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?world=0101) there at the moment too, though.

Title: the weather
Post by: SS on March 16, 2007, 11:21:36 PM
Bah. Everyone's buzzing about the snow next week. We'll get a bit of rain and that's it.

If I wore t-shirt and shorts, I'd be wearing them for the first three days of next week. (but I don't, so I'll just wear trousers and a regular shirt).

Spring sucks because allergies suck.

Weather's been weird here.  It almost blazing hot for a couple of days, and then it rained for a couple of days.

I'm ready to be drugged up for the weather.  It's like summer almost now, but they say it's going to rain in a few days..

Title: the weather
Post by: Hornet on March 24, 2007, 04:30:07 PM

Hayfever's evil.  What with that and SAD (which most humans have to one lever or another, by definition), life's not much fun. :(

Title: the weather
Post by: mole on March 25, 2007, 02:29:16 AM
i never suffer from that SAD business, i find different times of the year remind me of good times in the past and they spur me on to get on with things

Title: the weather
Post by: SS on March 25, 2007, 04:12:08 PM
Nobody suffers from SAD.
It's another made-up illness by people with nothing better to do than shove people into pidgeon holes and throw drugs at them in order to make money.

Title: the weather
Post by: Hornet on March 25, 2007, 08:06:17 PM

My take on it is that people feel happier by default in nice weather anyway, and that gland (pineal, I think) that reacts to sunlight affects the issue too, in some people more than others.

I literally feel far happier when in sunlight than not, it's quite surprising sometimes, like a sort of switch.

Title: the weather
Post by: SS on March 25, 2007, 08:23:34 PM
I feel much happier when it's windy. And when it's raining. And when there's lightning.

(I think I just like weather, and being outside.)

Title: the weather
Post by: mole on March 25, 2007, 09:18:16 PM
think its sposed to be due to lack of vitamin D which is produced in the skin when its exposed to the sun

Title: the weather

The trick is to not get burnt when in the sun  <_<

I was about to add "or who", but considering that it is Mole after all, "what" is probably more accurate in either case.

The weather's being a bit odd here, but mostly sunny.

Title: the weather
Post by: mole on March 27, 2007, 09:01:37 PM
it was a 'what' actually, but when the suns out 'who' can be just as likely.

have been giving my motorbike a run in as i havent been out on it since xmas.

Given that 33 F is barely above freezing point, and he said that 33 was the high of a semi-warm week, and what with humans and sharks both being warm blooded creatures, I'm going to hazard a guess that he's certainly talking in °Cs. :P

its one of the sexiest things.

Heh. I'm sure my ex-flatmate used to go to the gym on Tuesdays for exactly that reason.

Not sure if it's anything special about Tuesdays though - simply that gyms are for posers. :P
If you want to get fit, go running, swimming, ride a bike, whatever - do real exercise.

I'm not sure why, but I took the city bus back downtown to where I live, ran around for half an hour, took a shower, and rode back up to campus for section...
I just felt like I had to get some exercising done.
