Title: The Olympics
Post by: underruler on August 15, 2004, 10:40:12 PM
go USA!  I'm really excited.  Especially about the swimming and gymnastics, although gymnastics makes me nervous b/c you score is in someone else's hands.

grrr, i hate crocker, he ruined the US 4x100 relay   he went a 50 second split, ruining our chances of winning and we got bronze :hmmm:  but the next big match-up should be interesting, phelps goes up against thorpe in the 200 freestyle.  go Mike! :D

hehe as allways you forget the allmighty dutch!!! we beat you on the 4x100 and Pieter van den Hoogenband beat phelps again (also in the series) in the 200 freestyle

and Inge de Bruijn (the dutch swimming lady from the picture) isnt really that hot... her chin is too big and her ass to small she only got nice hair which you can't see in that picture (ow and she is in a toothpaste commercial over here :) )

Title: The Olympics
Post by: matt_the_shark on August 17, 2004, 02:13:44 AM
eh? hoogenband? never heard of him :P

he  may have beaten phelps, but Mike's still gonna do better overall so i don't care :D

Post by: underruler on August 17, 2004, 02:20:05 AM
Opper that was my point in mentioning her.  She's kind of ugly w/ her cap on.  Go Phelps :)

Title: The Olympics
Post by: opperdude on August 17, 2004, 05:12:43 PM
LOL vd Hoogenband won 4 gold medals last olympics i believe and he was the one that caused the US getting bronze at the 4x100, we (the Netherlands) were 4th before he started the last 100m and were 2nd when he finished  :)
for years he and Thorpe were recordholders on the mayor distances (free stroke), but of course you chauvinistic americans only watch the university swimming and don't realize you get pawned by the dutch <_<

you don't know Inge de Bruin either? cause i believe she won 7 (!) medals on the last olympics, she doesn't do that well until now this year tho

Title: The Olympics
Post by: matt_the_shark on August 17, 2004, 05:24:31 PM
it wasn't necessarily hoogenband that caused us to lose the relay.  Ian Crocker wasn't feeling well for the race and he only went out a 50 second hundred, when he should have been able to go at least under 49.  and then the last person on the american relay went out way too fast on his first 50 and tired himself out and that's why the hoogie got ahead.  sorry opper :)

Title: The Olympics
Post by: opperdude on August 17, 2004, 05:53:34 PM
but still he got the fastest split (rest of the dutch team isn't that good) and has allways been the one of the best swimmers together with thorpe, he dominated all important championships so still it's weird you don't know the guy when you like to follow the swimming stuff
you should go find yourself a list of the world records and who got them when of the past 6 years or so, if i remember it right well he has been dominating the 100m freestyle for years

hehe sharky, v/d Hoogenband strikes again!!! he won gold @ the most important swimming distance again (2 times in a row, which places him with the legends popov and weissmuller) :) 100m freestyle, no americans, no thorpedo :)

Title: The Olympics
Post by: matt_the_shark on August 19, 2004, 08:03:30 AM
hm, i think i forgot to mention that the americans beat the aussies in their best relay, the 4x200 free relay.  austrailia hasn't lost that relay in 7 years, AND WE BEAT THEM!!! :D oh, and michael phelps won the 200 butterfly also :)

Title: The Olympics

I was just watching the swimming and Aaron Peirsol won the gold, but the judge is being an ass and DQing him.  It turned out alright though :)

Title: The Olympics
Post by: underruler on August 24, 2004, 10:35:24 PM
Oh the Greek guy that won it?  I don't think he really deserved that b/c of the feet shuffle.

Did you hear about Paul Hamm though?

Title: The Olympics
Post by: matt_the_shark on August 26, 2004, 12:29:09 AM
wtf do you get a greek guy from?

alexei nemov, a russian was given a low score for a horizontal bars routine and the crowd went crazy for 10 minutes until they changed the scores.  paul hamm was next up, and he couldn't go because of the crowd.  even after they raised the scores the crowd was still crazy until alexei went up and asked the crowd to calm down.

that's what i'm talking about ^_^

Title: The Olympics
Post by: underruler on August 26, 2004, 01:35:49 AM
I'm talking about when the Greek guy won the rings, and the whole crowd was singing...

eh nvm.

No I didn't see that :/

I hope China beat USA, as they are the only ones that stand a chance now.
GOOO CHINA!

Title: The Olympics
Post by: underruler on August 27, 2004, 07:22:27 PM
In medal count?

I doubt that's going to happen, unless China can pull a miracle in track.

Title: The Olympics
Post by: matt_the_shark on August 29, 2004, 12:16:20 AM
that's not gonna happen :)

i think the only thing that china's got good in track is the hurdles, that one guy did good i think

Title: The Olympics
Post by: DigitalDrunkenMonkey on August 29, 2004, 12:20:59 AM
that chinese chick won gold on the 10k

Title: The Olympics
Post by: underruler on August 29, 2004, 12:28:00 AM
Even if they win some medals, they aren't proficient enough in track to dominate like we can.

Post by: DigitalDrunkenMonkey on August 29, 2004, 12:29:42 AM
indeed :/

Title: The Olympics
Post by: underruler on August 29, 2004, 12:31:41 AM
Still I don't think we're that good in track, sprinting maybe, but otherwise third world countries dominate in the long distant events.

Title: The Olympics
Post by: DigitalDrunkenMonkey on August 29, 2004, 12:32:56 AM
thats certainly true, i don't know why though, its crazy :/

Title: The Olympics

Post by: DigitalDrunkenMonkey on August 29, 2004, 01:26:54 AM
you probably did win the 4 x 400 relay, but we definitely won the 4 x 100 relay ^^

Yea...they're small *everywhere*.

China just won their first medal in track.  I think in some hurdling event.

I'm kind of sad the whole thing is over; I was watching the closing ceremonies and all the athletes were in the stadium, and I wish I was there :/
