451  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / Ok wtf? on: May 14, 2004, 08:59:48 AM

As you may know, I'm stuck with Windows XP. whenever i save pictures into a folder, this weird thumbs file thingy is there. every time. its starting to piss me off! so ....wtf?

Erm, what's wrong with Windows XP?  Unless you're a techie, there isn't really anything better for general use.
452  The Great Alliance / The Great City / What do you want to see in Age Three? on: May 12, 2004, 02:23:14 PM
What with all the grumbling about the beta and the lack of new features, nobody seems to have actually sat down and thought about what they would actually want to see in the real age.  And we need a new topic.  So, whap your ideas here.

My main grumble is that the race bonuses are too clear-cut, and there's no overlap between them.  What if the bonuses were as follows:

Human: 25% income, 10% covert.
Elf: 25% covert, 10% strike.
Dwarf: 25% defence, 10% income.
Orc: 25% strike, 10% defence.

And it goes without saying that sabotage should be brought back, otherwise the covert bonus is nigh-useless.  And spies could be able to sabotage more than weapons - imagine if you could assassinate mercenaries!  Although the spy should then run a higher risk of discovery...  Also, they should have the option for spies to remain in the enemy camp, providing daily reports on not just stats, but the times of battles and who they were against etc.  The spy should have a chance of being discovered when he tries to deliver his report.  There would have to be some kind of counter for this, similar to the old "check weapons for sabotage" function.
453  The Great Alliance / The Great City / join on: May 10, 2004, 08:45:07 AM

If my current project works as expected, then we'll have little problem gaining recruits in future.  But in the meantime, are there even any topics that are active for them to gain ten posts in?

Heh, I was tempted to buy a whole load of language books today... I wanna learn Dutch & Greek & German & Chinese & Norweigan & Esperanto & Italian & stuff.

Learn German & Italian.  With a good knowledge of both Latin and English you should be able to get along in just about any country except the ones using Chinese & Arabic based languages.  And I'm glad to bump into someone else who's heard of Esperanto!

455  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / WinAmp or WMP? on: May 05, 2004, 12:14:00 PM

I only post when I have something useful to add to a discussion - I'm the last of a dying breed by the looks of things.
456  The Great Alliance / The Great City / Names... on: May 05, 2004, 12:08:04 PM

Some of you may remember an old PC game called Hellbender...  I was calling myself Hornet long before that, but one of the best ships in Hellbender was called Silver Hornet, so I used "TheSilverHornet" wherever Hornet was already taken.

I've also got a handful of other names, but I rarely use those and aren't worth mentioning.
457  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / WinAmp or WMP? on: May 04, 2004, 09:38:24 AM

Of course I'm not saying don't post, but you seem to have a tendancy to reply to anything and everything, and it's rarely on topic, or at least related to the current spam being discussed.  I'm also not saying that most people here don't spam *glares at almost everyone except SS* but it does clutter the forums up when the active topics are buried beneath piles of old ones to which the sole new reply reads something like:

Quote
what about a radio?

or better yet... how about no music!

the calvanistic uber peasant has spoken

Which has no relation whatsoever to skins!  I suppose I'm a bit more sensitive to spam and the like than most people as I'm a mod on three other forums, and because it's a topic I started, but the whole point of forums is to have meaningful discussions where you're supposed to.  If you want to spam, there's a whole temple dedicated to the stuff in the Headquarters section!  And the HQs itself is for general chatter, so that's the place to be having it.

458  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / WinAmp or WMP? on: April 30, 2004, 09:14:52 AM

Such as spam.  You've been around, what is it, fifteen days?  And you've got more posts than I have, and I've been here for months!  If you just post on whatever topic you stumble into, people aren't interested in what you've got to say.  And besides that, necromancy clutters the forums.
459  BPSITE / BPSITE Headquarters / Happy birthday SS!! on: April 21, 2004, 09:43:14 AM

I wonder if preemptive birthday celebrations are the reason for SSs absence from the forums...  Cheesy

Happy birthday SS - if you're sober enough to read this topic, let alone remember that you own a website!  Cheesy

460  BPSITE / BPSITE Headquarters / Count the half pennies! on: April 21, 2004, 09:39:17 AM

From the sound of it I imagine someone ate it.

*waits for the next person to post to seize the opportunity to spam and instantly claim to have eaten it, thus ensuring another two pages of spam whilst everyone else claims to have done the same.*

Ye gods, but SS made a daft decision by setting the ranks so high.
461  BPSITE / BPSITE Headquarters / fuck the world on: April 21, 2004, 09:28:59 AM

What's the what then?  Any progress, either way?
462  BPSITE / BPSITE Headquarters / fuck the world on: April 05, 2004, 09:48:37 PM

Most doors don't have the locking cable within the outer shell anymore; it's all inside the framework.  If it's one of those locks with a hexagonal key, cut a tennis ball in half, put it over the keyhole, and punch it.  Works like a charm.

Hooliganism aside, what's happening over your side of the world now, Evil?  Are things still just as bad?  Feel free to message me; as I said, I've had a very similar experience in the past.
463  BPSITE / BPSITE Headquarters / fuck the world on: April 02, 2004, 11:05:15 AM

Oh, why didn't I find this thread earlier?  I've been in almost exactly the same situation myself, except things didn't get quite so bad as that.

As SS said, good luck with whatever happens.
464  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / WinAmp or WMP? on: April 01, 2004, 01:03:03 PM

I'm considering making a skin to advertise a total revamp of my website, but I'm not sure which of the two I should make it for.  WinAmp is far more flexible, but not everyone has it and there are thousands of other skins out there.  Most people have WMP, and there are less alternate skins available for it, but all versions except the very latest are restrictive.  But technical shebangs aside, which do you use, and which do you prefer?
465  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / I should be in bed, but... on: April 01, 2004, 10:30:55 AM

And the next question: is it free?
