Title: Magic: The Card Game
Post by: Drauka on November 08, 2003, 04:21:38 AM
Anyone intrested in playing this game? Recently I was giving Magic: Online but im an asshle and refuse to play online- so I downloaded Apprentice (http://www.dragonstudios.com/) which allows me to play against people online for free, with an unlimited selection of cards for my deck.

The deck I have recently rebuilt is the deck I won a tourniment 2 years ago for a $500 cash prize. (Though the key card needed to make the deck work isnt supported so its just a cheap set of goblins now)

If anyone is intrested in playing tell me here with an estimated time youll be on.

[Note] We can meet in the chat room if only i know what it was [/note]
[Note2] If you download the program get the Oracle upgrade[/note]

they made it into an online game  :o   why would they do that? you have to hold and smell the the cards in your hands feel the smoothness between your fingertips.  drool over the sexy demons.  you can't replace that with an online game.  now I got myself all worked up I have to go find my deck LOL

that is like replacing porn with little stick figures, it just isnt right.

I have a stack of actual cards sitting next to me right now.  It's not really fun if you customize your deck (i.e. buy or select every card from online, then make a deck), though.  <_<

I've got my collection of over a thousand cards behind me, approximately two metres away, crammed into a white box (from a 6-way extension) with sticky tape holding it together and stopping them slipping out.

I have sooo many older edition cards (pretty much all of them up to Odyssey), and more white cards (3-4 decks worth) than I know what to do with. LOL

I had a cool white deck with circles of protection from everything (except artifacts).  I got it (and subsequent white decks) so good people wouldn't play me.  LOL

i had some pretty good decks , especially my black one was lethal  :P

Heh heh.

4xCircle of Protection: Black (1: Prevent all damage from a black source)
1xGreater Realm of Preservation (2: Prevent all damage from a black or red source)
1xAbsolute Grace (All creatures gain protection from black)
1xLight of Day (Black creatures cannot attack or block)
1xElephant Grass (Opponent must pay 2 per black attacking creature)
1xWhite Knight (2/2 Knight, first-strike, protection from black)
1xDuskrider Falcon (1/1 Falcon, flying, protection from black)
1xOrder of the White Shield (2/1 Knight, Protection from black)
2xWard of Lights (Enchanted creature gains protection from chosen colour)
1xPrismatic Ward (all damage from chosen colour to enchanted creature -> 0)
3xSeeker (Enchanted creature can only be blocked by white or artifact creatures)

Add in a few disenchants and healing salves, top up with a few more assorted creatures, then an appropriate amount of plains.

How would that do against your black deck? :P

/me considers going getting Apprentice and building the deck.

don't know the spelling anymore but neminyrals disk  :P
and you first have to be able to play those cards too  ;)
+ you wouldn't know on forehand it would be total black
it's easy to make a counter deck then eh

there's no disenchant in your deck

PWNED!!!!!!!!!!!

+ ss you suck at making a deck

an enchantment to give all creatures protection of black while all of the creatures in your deck already have protection of black
enchantment that lets the creature only be blocked by white creatures, the protection of black does that already..

Not all of them do, and there's no guarantee of getting the protected creatures out before the enchantment

Yes, but again if I don't have protected creatures out by then, it's useful.

Best would be to have a deck with all creatures protected from black, but that requires enough good cards that have that.

Um sometime in the afternoon? I'm 6 hours ahead, so anytime before 7pm your time, and preferably after 1pm your time would be good for me.

As for fast/slow mana - is that where you can put any amount number of land down per turn, or is something else?

Title: Magic: The Card Game
Post by: Drauka on November 11, 2003, 04:55:01 AM
These are general rules as I was taught in the tournyment I went to. I played m slowmana deck at the fast mana tournyments and still placed well.

Slow mana is your draw one card per turn, and and delt Seven at start. 60 card max. And you can only play one mana per turn. 20 life start.

Fast mana is your draw two cards per turn, and are delt Nine at start. 120 card max. You can play as much land as you want per turn, for each land you play you draw a card from yuor deck. 40 life start. [Note: Card maxes depends on the tournyment and rules your playing under.]

SS: The deck I want to play against you is an experimental black fast mana deck at 60-80 cards, I'm still playing with it thats why the card number is unsure. But if you dont want to play fast mana tomarrow then I'll use my red deck.

[Edit] 3:30-4:00pm a good time for you? I dont get out of school till 3:30...heh... And lanair was refering to when you cut the cards and put them back togather after you shuffle. Funny if you caught it.

SS... What are the rules for one word posts? And what does it mean when there not even one word?  :P  :P  :P  :P [/Edit]

I'm sorry, but this game--or rather the people who play it--scare me. I hang out in the college lounge a lot when I'm not in class or at work, and a lot of people in there play Magic.  And love it. With a passion. And, should you name *any* card, will tell you what it does, when it was released, what its worth is, how many are in print, what artist did the drawing, what company printed the card,  etc etc etc. They truly scare me, as Magic basically IS their life.

Ah, that sounds simple enough. Not tried fast mana before, but I'd be willing to give it a try.

Nah, should be interesting... I'll go build an appropriate deck. The worst that could happen is I get comletely flattened, but at least I'll have an excuse if that happens. ;)

You have to perform the effect yourself, just like in a regular game - Apprentice is just a platform to play MtG on, it doesn't actually enforce rules/procedures.

I'm just curious how you can play online--namely, how you build decks, etc. They can't just have a site where you just pick--"i have  this and this and this"--or people would just pick all the awesome cards and build all-powerful decks. Do you have to only play with cards you actually have copies of? How can you prove what you have and what you dont?

The problem with that being that no cards are all-powerful, and every deck can be countered if you know its contents & what you're doing.

Title: Magic: The Card Game
Post by: FragMaster1972 on November 14, 2003, 06:01:46 PM
but there are definitely certain cards that everyone drools over, correct? I'm guessing as best I can from what I've seen and heard of my Magic-playing friends. So that's actually it? You can pick any cards you want? I'm surprised it works out.

Title: Magic: The Card Game
Post by: SS on November 14, 2003, 10:53:08 PM
There are some better cards, yeah, but generally they require high casting costs, if you are lucky enough to get them out.

Some people will build entire decks based around getting a certain card or set of cards into play that play really well and win them the game, but getting a deck to do this requires intelligence, getting the cards in the right order requires luck, and surviving long enough to get the card(s) into play requires skill.

Plus, what happens if two beings with almost infinite power have a fight - just think of most films: you end up with an awesome battle. :D

in type 1 you can use cards from alpha-mirrodin(the last expansion) with a few exceptions, extended goes from tempest to mirrodin, and type 2(also known as standard) uses the last large edition(8th)and the last two block cycles (onslaught block and mirrodin).  Hope you understand...........
