Ev, given the convo's taking place in #koctga lately, I think the abuse will continue regardless of whether you refuse to take it or not... Tongue
3  The Great Alliance / The Great City / What's your rank? on: November 18, 2003, 02:39:48 AM
I've been trying to break the 1k for a while, but I've been having some dramas with a guy farming me. Once my DA is high enough to stop him in his tracks I'll start to buy some more excals and then I should see some good improvements in my rank.

Currently 2900ish

thats not bad at all, i woulda expected a lot more. for me to repair weapons, its around 4-6k per point, depending on what im repairing  Sad
Yeah, my repairs were just over 4k per point...so that was 15points I lost in that one attack, when he did 49 damage.

Depends on if you have attack turns to burn. I to always try 1 turn first but the weapon damage and soldiers lost seems as great with 1 turn as with 15, and with never enough gold back to cover it. If I had over 1000 attack turns I might waste them and go with 15, after all some people will end the age with lots of attack turns left.
If you have a read thru the general site info under the Help, it does say that using more attack turns yields better gold, but that you get more weapons damage as a result.

You're right about the actual damage inflicted, that always seems to be basically the same, but I have found that when I check my weapons the damage is twice or more for 15 turns what it is for 1. Then again, they seem to have all sorts of interesting factors built into the equations. I did 1 attack on a guy who was sabbing my officer the other day. He did 49 damage (49, not 49k) to me, and when I went to repair my weapons it cost me just over 60k...
6  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / Win32/C++ on: November 14, 2003, 08:36:20 AM
Just wondering whether anybody is familiar with the WinAPI's and C++. I'm writing an application at the moment and was looking for a brain or two to pick if/when I run into any difficulties. Still a bit of a newbie with this stuff.

Three digit rankings are still a dream to some of us.

It starts to fail in the four digit rankings as well...that logic is fine but why not try 1 attack turn, instead of 15.
8  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / Packet Size on: November 11, 2003, 01:22:10 AM
I have the same problem from time to time, except it's only on KOC. I've never messed around with my packet size...

I've also seen alot of people in my attack log that like you said, "have no place in attacking me".  if very strange, and perhaps the mantality of the people playing KOC has gone down due to the lack of inforcement in the rules.
Here's another case in point...

I'm currently ranked abt 5k, and I logged in this morning and found that some guy who was ranked abt 12k had sent 8 spies in on a sab mission...no recon first, nothing. 8 Spies. He didn't even try to attack me afterwards.

I wasn't aware that spies are cheap enough to triain now that people can afford to throw them away like that.

Hmmm, so it sounds like maybe ignorant was the word that I should have used in this case...

Almost sounds too good to be true. I'll be keeping my eye on it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but in the last couple of days I've seen some pretty bad moves. First of all, one of my officers used 1 attack turn to feel a guy out, but it was defended so they left him alone. This guy had 233 soldiers, while my officer had 8. He turned around and launched 15 attack turns at my officer, which were defended!!  Tongue

You'd think that he would have learned something from that, but no, he bought some more knives and launched another attack (15 turns), and won 800 gold pieces...My officer was starting to get annoyed by this for the simple fact that the repairs were costing more than they could afford from TBG, so I sent him a 'Back off' message which was to the point but fair. This morning I logged in to find that he'd gone to his commander (who is ranked abt 480 or something) and asked him to get me. It didn't work...  Cheesy .

I'd love to think that this is a one-off act of stupidity on the part of a newbie, but it almost seems that there is an overall increase in mental ineptitude of players in KOC. As I look back through my attack logs, I see more and more attacks by people who have no place attacking me. They get slaughtered and lose a few soldiers and then I never hear from them again. I could understand it if they used only 1 attack turn, but to lose 15??

Is it just me?? Has anybody else encountered this??
14  The Great Alliance / The Great City / The role of deception in the game on: November 06, 2003, 10:35:39 PM
In the last week, I've encountered about 7 or 8 larger (800+soldiers) Orc armies with Citadels, ranked in the 13k region. All unsabbable of course, however with a 1 attack turn probe I found that they were only doing abt 200k damage. With a CA that high, and a DA that low the only thing that could be holding them at the 13k ranking is their SA.

To support that theory, I had one retaliatory attack from one of them, and his SA was abt 2mil from what I can figure...so yeah, they're using both deception and racial advantage. Obviously they're only in the 13k rankings temporarily after upgrade...I guess that means I was looking in the right place at the right time.  Cheesy
15  The Great Alliance / The Great City / What's your rank? on: November 03, 2003, 06:23:49 AM
Hovering just below 8k at the moment, trying to bolster my DA a bit to protect my TBG. Once I get it a bit higher I'll start to buy some Excaliburs and should get back to 3k within a day or two. (hopefully!!)
