Title: Best Free hosting
Post by: Everous on June 26, 2003, 10:30:54 PM
i'm trying to find the most amazing free web host ever...

so far, portland goes a long way...with some pretty sweet terms:

Quote
[li]No Banners & No Popups
[li]15MB Web Space & 100MB Monthly Bandwidth
[li]Ideal for personal domains, family web sites & test sites
[li]Supports all domains names and subdomains

got a better one?...post it up...

Hmmm, I think Brinkster (http://www.brinkster.com) offer a better service, though I think they may have a rule about you having to be a developer or something... what is the space you want for?

yeah, thats all about coding...and it dosen't say if there are any adverts by using their site

but i'll assume there are none...

mmm...i've got a pile of projects that i want to finish but i'll need some hosting first...
though thats kinda trivial...the main thing is that i was browsing GUA and found some really badly hosted sites such as Lycos and Geocities...so i started thinking:

why don't they use a good host like portland instead of a crap one?

though i couldn't help thinking that there might be someone sniffling at me looking into portland when there are far superior web hosts around....

so...any other offers?

They use Geocities/Lycos/etc because they are newbies. ;)

And nothing else off the top of my head... Crosswinds used to be good but they started charging, not sure if f2s still do free space, but they were also good when they did.

well i made one at cyberinfo.com a while ago and it was pretty decent for a semi-newbish website. unlimited photo uploads no popups (just a little banner type thing at the top  <_< ) you can have quite a few pages not sure.

anyway they changed the sites looks but i dont think it's as good anymore but you can try it out i suppose ;)

my friend has a dedicated server so he hosts me for free  LOL .  as for other free websites, it depends on whether you need to host a domain name or not.  i haven't found one recently, but i did try spaceports and it was ok.  it provided php and mysql support, which was what i was looking for.  but they only support subdomains...(more like folders within subdomains)

Heh. As soon as I get some things sorted out I plan to get a full dedicated server... and when that happens I can give out cheap/free hosting to people on here. :D

Yes, you can add a few more zeroes if you want my pesimistic answer.

However, just because the odds are low doesn't mean I'm not going to do it... the odds of me being "Peter Boughton" and not someone else in the world is 0.000000000167 and I still managed to be me didn't I! :D

My college has the best free hosting...the only thing I know is I have a free website and I do not think I have a limit on webspace and there are no ads...

Too bad I haven't put my site together yet, it has about 10s of work put into it and is just sitting there, lifeless.

Oh yes, this is my first post here ever, woohoo :)

They use Lycos because they have 50 mb instead of a lousy 15

thats wrong....Tripod offers 20mb space for a free account...whereas Brinkster offers 30mb and much better service
