REAGAN TOOK A HARD LINE STANCE AGAINST THE COMMUNISTS, WHICH EVENTUALLY LED TO THE COLLAPSE OF THE USSR AND END OF THE COLD WAR

REAGAN WAS NOT INVOLVED WITH WATERGATE

REAGAN WAS CALLED THE "TEFLON" PRESIDENT BECAUSE NO SCANDALS IN HIS ADMINISTRATION EVER STUCH TO HIM

REAGAN WAS A FORMER ACTOR AND AWESOME USER OF THE MEDIA

 ;)

The Cold War was a waste of time and resources so there goes my disliking for him.  I don't care if those people are communist.

The only part that I think was worth was the Korean war.  Other than that Vietnam was kind of futile.  I don't remember anything else that happened except for the smoking.

The Cold War was an unavoidable part of American history, and if we had not devoted enough resources to building up our military and challenging the Soviets, I feel we probably would not be living in this type of world right now.  ;)

The Korean Conflict and Vietnam Conflict were a part of the "war" part of the Cold War, while the rest of the time period was a battle of science, technolgy, and supposed military power between the US and USSR.  ;)

Hmmm... I kinda see what you mean, mole.  Wars take attention off of domestic issues, can be beneficial to the economy, and unless the government doesn't "sell it" correctly (with propaganda), unite people in one effort.

yeah from a american nationalists point of view or something... everybody knows they shouldn't have been in vietnam, but no american dares to say so as long as there are still veterans alive (and in the government and stuff)

My point is why do we have to butt ourselves into their business in the first place.  It's not like the Holocaust.  Stalin was a bad guy and we should have just assasinated him and let the country decide what to do next.

Bad idea, Under!!!
First of all, assasinating him would provoke a world response against Americans.
We don't know who would assume power next.
It's un-American to assasinate leaders (though that doesn't matter too much).
How could we actually get in range of the leader of a communist, paranoid country?  ;)

Gal- I just took the course, and I've been studying for my Regents in a week and a half.

I think they should nuke the place so no one can live there or threaten to nuke the place if they don't get along.  If they can't live there peacefully why let them.  Oh but what about the artifacts...I dunno, but personally I don't see why people have this certain mentality towards races/religions.  It needs to stop though.

Lanair: we tried to assasinate Ngo Dinh Diem in the Vietnam War.

well some times im sure it would be of everyones best interest, say big screwy virus or somthing *shrugs* could solve a lot of world hunger. if you want to kill people you dont use nukes

I'm not sure if any of my ideas would work in real life, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't.  This is why I'm not a world leader.  But those people behave like very violent animals with bombs over some very stupid reasons.  If there's enough space there then they should learn to co-exist and share the land.

first one, he took a hard line stance, but while it sped it up by maybe a few months did not much else

I totally agree with the second one

Third one no scandals stuck to him but the huge scandal was the Iran Contra one in which it was exposed that Reagan had no clue about what was happeneing in the government(either that or he was smart and lied)

and 4th one i agree, he was very charismatic

realized i double posted sorry

We had to because communism would've spread to Southeast Asia and possibly to India and Japan and we'd have a lot more to deal with

Lanair is right, no one could've assaissinated Stalin because he was so paranoid that he killed millions because of vague suspicion.

The person who would've assumed power next would've been Trotsky.(i'm assuming you mean before 1940 which was the year Trotsky was killed by a KGB agent) Trotsky wasn't as crazy and probably wouldn't have killed many Russians but he was more attuned to communism and communism would've lasted longer and the Russians could've grabbed all of German. Stalin killed all the officers of the army in the 30's because he thought they were planning a coup but that really screwed him when the Nazis invaded. With Trotsky in power he would've attacked Germany earlier and had a stronger army

Also pretty depressing... and people wonder why I dislike pork chops.  LOL

Oh, and RB- Reagan's proposed "Star Wars" defense spurred the Soviets to pour even more money into the military, screwing their society and dooming communism to end.  I think they could have limped along a while longer without Reagan's influence.  ;)

it killed their economy but the main reason for the collapse was the assuming of power by Gorbachev

There's a lot less wrong with communism than capitalism. :P

Though the best way forward is a balance of both methods.

Nah, with a perfect population any government system will work well.

The main problem with communism is greedyness, (which isn't helped by so many people over-valueing money), and power-hungry people that want to control others.

the instant someone gets greedy communism fails and, at the risk of sounding like Voltaire, all people are greedy. Even Mother Teresa had some scandal arising from one of her charities

Capitalism is much better than communsim.  When the government begins overly interfering in the economy, or starts promoting too many social welfare programs, the country falls into shambles.  ;)

Gorbachev tried to reform the USSR, which led to pretty much each republic demanding their own country.  The union fell apart, and Gorbachev's job of head of the communist party became obsolete.  ;)
