Title: AP's
Post by: Lord Lanair on May 03, 2005, 03:46:45 AM
Just wondering, since it's that season again.  Speaking of which, I took my French AP today, and it was humiliating (since I don't follow directions well).  Anyone who has taken a test where you need to speak into one of those old tape recorder things has my sympathy.  For that speaking part of the test, I was given 60 seconds each to answer four general questions, and barely took up half that time.  I feel sorry for my reviewer, since he'll hear so much silence he'll think the tape is broken!  Worst was the 40 minute essay that the AP people give 7 pages for you to write... I barely filled 1 1/3!  Meh, all four of us in my French class had the same bad experiences though, since we're all equally incompetent, so it's fun in retrospect.

Anyone have tragic AP stories (or whatever their European counterpart is)?   :)

Thats why you don't take french....its that simple

if AP's are finals then no, i haven't taken them yet...well..whatever they are i haven't taken them...

What's an AP?

Title: AP's
Post by: smi256 on May 03, 2005, 09:20:54 PM
If the AP you're talking about is that same AP that I know of, then it means 'Advanced Placement'
in short it's taking college level classes in high school

AP classes are classes you take in high school that count for college credit (Units)
If they don't count for college credit, then it just looks good for when you apply for college/university because it shows that you were successful in taking harder then normal high school courses.

Yes, smi, that's correct, except you forgot about how long and painful the final tests are. :P

In my school, if you take an AP course, the national test at the end of the year is mandatory.  <_< Speaking of which, I have another one tomorrow, then Thursday, then next Tuesday!  /dances  What fun!  :stake:

Title: AP's

mandatory to pass :P
I wouldn't know though...I'm special :alien: I never took any AP classes.  at the time I didn't know they counted for college credit, but even if I did know, I still probably wouldn't have taken it :paranoid:
I just feel sorry for those who have to take the exit exam (on top of all the other shit they have to do)
*looks at under
do you have to take it under?  I know they pushed the year back, but I don't know how far (indefinitely perhaps)
(not like you wouldn't pass it of course)
*knocks on wood
just in case you understand...

Hm. I never did anything like that.

I know of some people who managed to do GCSEs (Year 10-11/high school final test things) a couple of years early, because their parents were teachers or something, but I think they still had to do them with everyone else anyway.

6[/i]?!?!?!?!?!?!  And what's that thing about your GPA?

I take AP French (language), Stat, English, and EnviroSci.  Speaking of which, how was the stat test...  I'm guessing you took it today?  Question 5b on the part II was incredibly impossible, no?  :)

I had fun on today's English Composition one... except I had to do 55 MC questions in 1 hour and 3 essays in another 2 hours.  You don't know pain until you take the English AP.  LOL

The worst part was I had chosen the work of literature to use for the 3rd essay question before reading the question, and then needed to make Hamlet fit a rather hard theme after writing half my intro paragraph.  LOL

Title: AP's
Post by: ns33 on May 07, 2005, 05:28:08 PM
I'm not supposed to discuss things on the test or else I would have to be reported to the Office of Testing Integrity and subject myself and my school to offical investigation.  :hmmm:

Whatever. I screwed up on #6, which was the case study that had the dual-binomial variables. If I remember correctly, #5 was the one with the confidence interval, part (a) to draw the lines, part (b) to find the two CIs and interpret. CI = x +- (t*)(s/sqrt(n)). To get t*, you'd have to refer to the critical t values chart in the formula sheet; I used a program on my calculator and got t* = 2.306 for n = 9 and C = 0.95. So, "I am 95% confident that the true mean of lead on children's hands who played indoors/outdoors in urban/suburban areas is between CI-lower and CI-upper. This means that 95 out of 100 intervals will actually contain mu."

I'm taking 6 because they're all free; the county covers the $82 per test this year which is  Our county adds 0.5 to any class in which you take the AP exam. So at the end of the year, if I got a B in, say, stat, my grade on my transcript would show as a B but my GPA would be a 3.5. Other counties inflate GPAs by weighting AP classes with +1.0 <_<

I still have an overall B for all my quizes ;) (it's not bad, it's good, it's just not really good), I would have to get a D or lower on the final to make any difference in the grade for the class.

only a week and two days left till Fanime :hehe:

Smi, is it kind of sad that I'm Asian and I've never watched anime in my entire lifetime?
Maybe, it just means that you haven’t had your brain rotted out yet XD
The most common complaint that I’ve heard is that a lot of people that have just started watching anime want more time to watch it, and that it’s hard to make sure that they do their work before wasting time watching anime.
So it’s a mixed blessing, so to speak.  On one hand you haven’t been able to watch some very entertaining shows, but on the other hand you haven’t had the tremendous distraction that of which is called anime.

Lanair, an optional quiz is just that; a quiz that you don't have to do  :D
My instructor has it such that he'll give the best 7 quiz scores out of 8.  If you do the optional quiz then that's just one more chance to get a better score and bump off the next lowest
Meaning, you can bomb a quiz and not have it kill your grade (you just have to be really good for the rest of the quizzes)
 :hehe:
Which is totally cool!!!
/me points out again that the total quiz grade is 75% of the total grade
the other 25% is the final...
If you've missed the next grade by a little, he'll bump you up (ex: B+ to A) if he thinks you're a good student (attend class, good labs, good questions).  The human factor; Otherwise, it's all by the numbers.

yeah, a bunch of schools around here switched to six marking periods after complaints from some parents that they weren't getting updated enough about how their kids were doing.  But now all of the kids are complaing that there isn't enough work per marking period so if you do bad or forget to turn something in, it hurts your grade more :hmmm:

so, in other words, in that respect, our schools are really messed up

My advice- graduate.  Then you don't need to deal with it.   :D

On another note, my brother had his Global Regents today... er yeserday, and for the thematic essay, he wrote about the Bubonic plage and Rwandan genocide (the topic was global events/issues, and most of his class used deforestation and overpopulation).  Sigh.   LOL

done! finished with everything :D

I hate it when they put information before the question and then they have the question.  I missed something on the physics test today because of that :hmmm:

But I love when they ask a question, and a later question has the answer incorporated in it.  LOL

Oh, and I GRADUATED TODAY!!!  I'm free from high school for the rest of my life!!!  :D
