They are. All odd and no sensible thought it seems. The admin area is even worse (as evidenced by how long it took me to fix)

Hornet said SMF was all wonderful and great, but I'm not really convinced. :/

Ok, so despite having a dedicated server I hadn't bothered to switch bpsite forums from my old shared hosting.

Well I did that this week, and it turns out that Invision is too crap to handle PHP5.

So, after poking around trying to get it working, I figured it was simpler just to upgrade to a newer version.

Except Invision is no longer free, so I simply grabbed SMF and a converter, and after a bit of jiggerypokery with the database and conversion script, I got it working.

Welcome to BPSITE SMF Forums. Smiley

I feel sorry for your students. LOL

What subject is it?
83  BPSITE / Geek's Corner / CFML on: June 28, 2008, 03:26:13 PM
So yeah, as I said in the other thread, I went to Edinburgh for a conference a few weeks back, and by far the biggest news from the conference has to be: Railo is going Open Source! (cool)

Railo is an alternative CFML engine to Adobe ColdFusion, already far cheaper (and with lots of extra useful features), but at Scotch on the Rocks they announced that they will be going completely open source - but better than that, they will be joining JBoss.org and thus opening a gateway to the larger Java community.

There's a lot more CFML news that should convince people who have previously dismissed it to re-consider:

- Adobe have started an Open Process Initiative, to be a lot more open about what is happening with ColdFusion, including a public bug tracker/feature request.

- Adobe are giving the full Enterprise edition of ColdFusion away free for Educational use.

- Adobe, Railo, and some key community figures have formed a CFML Advisory Committee to create a CFML language that all the engines can adhere to.

- Railo 3.0 is out soon, with cool cfvideo and cfvideoplayer functionality to make converting between formats and displaying movies on pages /really/ simple.

- Railo is going Open Source under LGPLv2, as of Railo 3.1 due out later this year

- Railo is joining JBoss, and will be providing simple support for things like Hibernate ORM, Clustering, and lots more.

- BlueDragon went Open Source under GPLv3 earlier this year.

- All engines (but particularly Railo and CF8) have/are introducing extra syntax improvements, including to CFScript for strange people that don't like tags.

In addition to all that, the number of frameworks for CFML has been growing rapidly...
with Fusebox, Mach-ii, ModelGlue, ColdBox, and more providing MVC-style controller circuits.
there's Transfer, Reactor, and several others for ORM
and ColdSpring and LightWire both offering IoC and AOP
etc

The next year is going to be a great time for CFML developers - PHP, Python and Ruby better watch out. Tongue

Grrr, the problem was not CF... it was dodgy JavaScript (not mine) and missing stuff mentioned in the tech spec (that one was me Sad )
Oooh, and ... I'm going to go start a new thread... good stuff has happened that might be convince you to use CFML! Wink

I need to do lots of things more - haven't been in IRC in /ages/ - can't remember the last time I opened Miranda (before today; to help my sister with Laptop problems over Y!Messenger, anyway)

I am attempting to get myself more organised though, so you'll hopefully see me popping in there more frequently... probably starting this evening, after I've gone shopping and stuff.

The conference is a webdev one. Smiley
cfDevCon - primary focus is CF (and Flex/Flash) but there's plenty of more generic stuff - Accessibility, Microsoft SQL Server, Cryptography, web hacking, Apache Ant, and of course the best topic being the one I'm going to be talking about, which is Regular Expressions.

Website is www.cfdevcon.com if you're interested - early bird prices end on Monday.

Went to Edinburgh a few weeks back for a conference, which was fun. I like Edinburgh. Smiley

Week after that I took photographs of my sister's flower arrangements at a wedding in a very fancy place in London.

This last week, I've been helping with an important project at work, only for us to completely screw up the demo, resulting in very dissapointed project manager & department director. Sad

Started looking at getting my own house, now that the prices here and beginning to slow/drop. Still need to save more deposit, but hopefully by the end of the summer I'll have enough and be able to get a big fancy mansion one bedroom flat.

In September there's another conference. It's only in Brighton this time, but I'm going to be presenting at it. Cheesy

Then after that, I'm probably going to be having a holiday somewhere around the Cornwall/Somerset area.

No, but I know some people who do.

Are we talking pedal-powered or motorbikes?

Wow, it's remco! Cheesy

Five years... crikey, time is flying past far too quick.

This forum is like riding a bicycle... it's got two wheels and doesn't fall over if you go fast enough.
