he's correct. "dead" is in hex, its decimal equivalent is 57005. dead + you= 57006.  :)

I learned hex in HS. Junior year. its easy. and if you know it well enough, you can take entire math tests in hex and confuse the hell outta your teacher.  and if you get anything wrong, just say the teacher doesnt know how to read hex, and that its their mistake, not yours. :)

Post by: SS on November 18, 2003, 06:29:57 PM
Yeah, I learnt it when i started doing websites, which was before I'd left school. :P

I have no idea what you guys are talking about but since SS is the most computer knowledgable person I know now, he has to help me get that spyware off my comp.  LOL

uhhh use adaware or check ur add/remove progs menu?

Title: Geeky Riddle
Post by: Thamior on November 21, 2003, 09:04:31 PM
Ad-aware gets rid of stuff for about 3 hours and then it all seems to pop back up onto my computer the next day.

Post by: RipperRoo on November 21, 2003, 09:14:03 PM
Thats what I was noticing, it doesnt actually prevent spyware, just gets rid of it and lets it respawn.

And there are some files on my harddrive that I just CAN'T DELETE.  I'll bring them over to the Recycling Bin and then when I go to empty it the stupid thing says I'm not able to delete it.

A virus actually has a payload.  What you have is a worm or a trojan just because it sounds like someone is just fishing with your head :P
and yes, you really should have alot of protection if you're using kazaa

alright, heres what you do. go to start->run, type cmd and hit enter. type cd c:[directory of file]. hit ctrl-alt-delete and end explorer. if it works right, youll know cause your start menu, task bar, etc will disappear. go back to the dos window and type del [filename WITH extension] and hit enter. now go back to the task manager, hit new task, type explorer, and hit enter. rinse. repeat.

oooh, dangerous. I wouldn't recommend that unless they know the files are not needed, just incase they happen to accidentily destroy a system file. Better to first rename it and make sure nothing goes wrong - that way you can always return the file if need be.

rename [originalfilename] [newfilename]
So for example, you might use "rename file.dll file.dll.old".
Seems safer that way?

Good call.  I had the Trojan Virus all weekend until my brother's college roommate helped me fix up my unusable computer (a little fact that's making its way into most of my posts today).  It seems okay for now I guess.  I don't trust myself deleting files because I have no idea what any of them are really, so I won't do that like I initially wanted to,  :P

Yeah I think that I can take the blame for that one...but now that the riddle has been answered and only two or three people even know what hex is, spyware seems to be the more popular topic...especially since my computer is infected/infested with it.
