Zathman if somebody doesn't make you a member soon I'm going to do something.  I <3 you.
 * Hands UnderRuler a lovely red rose ---,---'---{@ *

Well once SMI comes around, I'll either become a member, or i'll be hung upside down by my toes dripping with honey over an ant hill. Whichever comes first, the SweetDream, or the NightMare... Such a horrible tradeoff either way, the SweetDream of SMI actually showing up, is loaded with carbs... Tongue

20  The Great Alliance / The Great City / What do you want to see in Age Three? on: May 12, 2004, 06:34:55 PM
Handicaps! Or something of the like...

Humans: +25% Income, -25% Covert
Orcs: +25% Attack, -25% Defense
Dwarves: +25% Defense, -25% Income
Elves: +25% Covert, -25% Attack

I've played a few games where this is implemented, and its done pretty successfully.

22  The Great Alliance / The Great City / New Races? on: May 12, 2004, 06:28:31 PM
Post what race you may like to see in the future, and post what kind of benefit using them would have.

I'd go for Gnomes myself (+25% Technology {Cheaper Upgrades/Better Weapons})

We should write a petition to the admins or something to get *them* to be a bit more active then. Or if not, I could see if I could find some game-admins/ex-game-admins out there that I've been friends with in the past who might want to take over this game Tongue But I hear a ton of moaning and groaning going on, so apparently the admins here really are incompetent Tongue

Farm, n.,
(1:) to collect and take the fees or profits of (an occupation or business) on payment of a fixed sum
(2:) to give up (as an estate or a business) to another on condition of receiving in return a fixed sum
(3:) [a:] to devote to agriculture [b:] to manage and cultivate as a farm [c:] to grow or cultivate in quantity <farm trees for fuel> <farm gold>
(4:) to repeatedly within a set amount of time attack a person for their resources <3+ attacks, 5 day period = farming>
Take Note:
* Being attacked once with a 1 turn attack, and then followed by a 15 turn attack is not farming!
* To reduce the risk of being "farmed", spend your money!
* If you're losing petty pocket change (0-250k Gold), don't complain. But if you're losing a lot, continue reading on.
* If you're going to request help, post in the "Fortress" section, and only if you're a full member of TGA.

Taking Action :: The Peacemaker Approach

Rule #1 is curteousness. You all know this game is played by a lot of 13-18 year old males and the first thing someone that age does when he/she is threatened is reply with: "Bring It On!" So being polite is the way to go here.

If you follow these easy steps, your attacker will most likely cease attacking you, and (god forbid) you just might make a friend!

1. Only message them after they've consistently stolen your money for a few days (wait till they've attacked you at least 3 times within a 5 day period)
2. Be polite and friendly about the whole ordeal!
3. Never tell to your enemy about which alliance are you member of. And never threaten your attacker by telling them you've got a lot of 'friends' willing to take him/her down if they do not stop. That is considered a threat and can ruin the diplomacy.
4. Use words like please, thanks, I'd be glad if you..., etc. You have to ask for peace: don't demand peace.
5. Offer them a replacement farm (optional, reccomended)
6. Use the farm as an example: You could always try ****, his counter is only ****... (optional)

Taking Action :: When Diplomacy Fails...

"I've messaged my attacker but he keeps attacking me! Help!"

If he doesn't want to cease attacking you, follow these instructions:

1. Message him that if he does not stop attacking you, you will consult with the leaders of your alliance about his actions. Since he wouldn't stop when you asked nicely, there's no other way to resolve this, but to take it to your alliance.
2. Post his: KOC-name, Stats-link, DA Counter (preferrably get someone to spy on him), Your Attack Logs with his attacks, & the Messages you've sent him (and his/her replies)
3. If you've posted everything correctly, your request shall be considered, and retaliation may be in order.

Before Action Is Taken :: Consider This...

Next time someone farms you 4 times in a week, think long and hard about what a mass on them will do for you. Sometimes, Nothing. Try to put more emphasis on whether or not your request is really worth posting before you post.

Everyone gets attacked, and has gold stolen. That's part of this game. So maybe you stop one person, someone else will probably come along. You cannot destroy every person who attempts to farm you. But if this enemy of yours is really eating at you, then surely TGA will help you out! Just something to consider.

added from a double post:

Quote
Subject: If you'd be so kind...

Body: ...and refrain from attacking me, I'd be very much grateful. Perhaps if you can give me your alliance (if you're in one), I can search for a suitable replacement for .. me: Someone not in your alliance (hence my asking for your alliance), that you can farm. Hope you've been able to make use of the ###### Gold you've stolen from me over the past #### days...

Have a good day,

-YOURKOCNAME, DATE
Using This Template, I've gotten 4 different people to stop farming me. And I've received a few alliance invitations from them as well. Why don't you give this template a try if you can't think of a message.

i merged the two posts for you.  next time use the edit button.

Instead of of having the option to install adware on your computer to get rid of the ads, they should have it so people can pay with paypal or the likes and then by paying: the ads are removed for their account.

Also, alliances should be implemented within the game, so alliance control would be available (adding people, removing people, marking other alliances within the game as enemy, friendly, neutral,..) then by doing so, when you view someone's stats page, you'd see what alliance they are from. It works well in other games, I don't see why it wouldn't here Smiley

Internet Relay Chat (or just IRC)
----------------------------------------------------------------------

IRC :: Brief History

It all started in the summer of 1988 when Jarkko "WiZ" Oikarinen wrote the first IRC client & server at the University of Oulu, in Finland.

Jarkko intended to extend the BBS [Bulletin Board System] software he administrated at tolsun.oulu.fi, to allow news to be distrobuted in the usenet style, have real time discussions and similar BBS features. The first part he implemented was the chat part, which he did with borrowed parts written by his friends Jyrki Kuoppala and Jukka Pihl. It was initially tested on a single machine, and according to the words from Jarkko himself "The birthday of IRC was in August 1988". The first IRC server was tolsun.oulu.fi.

Jarkko got some friends at the Helsinki and Tampere Universities to start running IRC servers as well, and when his number of users increased, other universities followed suit. Markku Järvinen was another key helper by improving the client. By this time though, Jarkko sadly realized that the rest of the BBS features probably just wouldn't fit into this program...

Jarkko got in touch with guys at the University of Denver and Oregon State University. They had got an IRC network running (they had got the program from one of Jarkko's friends, Vijay Subramaniam -- the first non-finnish person to use IRC) and wanted to connect to the finnish network. IRC then grew larger and got used on the entire Finnish national network - Funet - and then connected to Nordunet, the Scandinavian branch of the Internet. In November 1988, IRC had spread across the Internet.

* In the middle of 1989, there were some 40 servers worldwide.

* ircII was released 1989 by Michael Sandrof.

* In July 1990, IRC averaged at 12 users on 38 servers.

* In 1990, a new network was set up in order to develop a new version (2.6) of the ircd. The network named ChNet (about 25 servers and no users) existed a few months before disagreements among the programmers caused it to dissolve.

* Now there are quite literally thousands of IRC networks sprawled all across the web, and by using such sites as http://www.searchirc.com/ you can easily find news channels and new networks to suit your needs and tastes. There are also hundreds of IRCds (the IRC "operating systems") out for distrobution, created by organizations, and individules.

IRC :: Connecting

The Great Alliance is currently housed on irc.chatchannel.org. Lets say you don't know how to connect, and would like to learn? Well follow these simple steps:
  • Find yourself an IRC Client, such as mIRC.
[li]Once downloaded, and installed, run the program. Once the program opens, an options dialog will open up. Take a look through the optionsr and familiarise yourself with them, but don't change anything yet!
[li]In the Full Name section, enter whatever you want. In the Email section, enter your email address (or whatever you want, entering your real email is unnecessary).
[li]In the Nickname section, enter a nickname you would like to use, by the time you connect to the ChatChannel server, you may find that someone else is already using this nickname, so in the Alternative section input a secondary nickname you would like to use. (You can change your nickname anytime while connected to an IRC Server by typing /nick newnickname).
[li]Now press OK. You'll now be presented with a blank window that is titled "Status". In this window, type the following: /server irc.chatchannel.org. It will start connecting you to the server. (If you have a firewall, you may have problems connecting, if that's the case, send me an email @ emperor_zathras@yahoo.co.jp with what type of firewall you have and I'll guide you through modifying it so you can access the irc server safely without having to turn off your firewall and risk catching a virus).
[li]Alright, so now you should be connected to irc.chatchannel.org, in the status window, go ahead and type /join #tga
[li]Welcome to The Great Alliance's IRC Channel on ChatChannel Smiley
Now what if you want to keep your nickname on ChatChannel? No problem! Type the following to 'register' your nickname so no one else can use it but you:

/msg nickserv register password email

* For your password, DO NOT use your KoC account password. Make up another password that only you know.

* For your email, use a valid email address (that's yours).

IRC :: Why does TGA need it?

The answer is elementary... Simply put: It allows The Great Alliance members to collaberate in realtime in a centralized location on the internet regardless of the members' locations off the internet. Thus allowing for easier organizations of Mass Hits, or Mass Clicks. It also allows members to make friends with one another, and other people from other alliances and games on the ChatChannel server. You don't need to get on IRC, but it makes it easier to make contact with the rest of the alliance.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hope this helps you out Uber Peasant and anyone else who had or may have questions about IRC. If for some reason I screwed up part of this post, well just send me a message and when I get it, I'll edit this post. Thanks!

(Edit: I changed my email from zathman@spymac.com to emperor_zathras@yahoo.co.jp)
28  The Great Alliance / The Great City / Names... on: May 12, 2004, 03:23:40 AM
"Zathman" Originated from an older Pseudonym of mine "Zathras" (I swear I did not get this pseudonym from Babylon 5. I've used this pseudonym for about 10 years now {Zathras & Variants} and only 2 years ago did I finally get the SciFi Channel, and realised that there was a Zathras on Babylon 5 (I still haven't seen any episode with him.).). My name came to me in a dream I had, which started off where I kept falling backwards into a flooded neighborhood and I kept trying to keep myself afloat. When I finally found myself some safe ground, I saw a TV which had the news on, my face was featured and they were saying "As of today, Zathras is pronounced dead due to a freak accident in his home." The name 'Zathras' stuck with me, and for years after that I kept adding variants to the name, "Aramon Zathras", "Andriu Adonai Aramon Zathras", "Andriu Adonai-Iemundo Hazakhan Adoni-Aramon Zathras", "Aragoth Zathras", "Sir Zathras", "Tonosama Zathras", "Lord Zathras", "Emperor Zathras", "Zathman".

Only recently have I stuck with 3 pseudonym variants: "Lord Zathras {Lord_Zathras @IRC}", "Emperor Zathras {Emperor_Zathras@hotmail.com; EmperorZathras AIM}", and "Zathman".

Yes, yes, may seem really weird, and you may think of me as a freak, but really, I'm not. But that's where my pseudonym came from. Smiley
