Title: Humerous images.
Post by: Hornet on June 14, 2006, 02:44:23 AM
And no, Mole, that's not a cue for you.  (Does anyone recognise the reference, by the way?)

Quite simply, if anyone encouters any such picture on their 'net related travels (or otherwise, if you've a camera or phone handy), post it here. :)

Speaking of such things, in Basingstoke, I used to walk past one of those elderly people signs (http://www.weeklygripe.co.uk/AImg/elderly.jpg) quite often.  The humerous thing was that it was just outside a funeral parlour-type place.

No no no no no - the "and other animals" part.  Not the Mole-related comment.  :miffed:

Lead period can't stop him, even when it's traveling at 350 meters a second upon impact with him.

I doubt it; it's part of a book title, which it's unlikely you'd have read.

Is it Gerrald Durrel?

Title: Humerous images.
Post by: Hornet on June 15, 2006, 04:06:02 PM

Indeed.  Have you read it, and if so what did you think?  My copy was rather mangled by a rabbit, of all things, but it's still around somewhere...

Title: Humerous images.
Post by: SS on June 15, 2006, 05:48:22 PM
Read it for English at secondary school, so - as is usually the case with such things - my enjoyment of it was very much dimmed by the ridiculous over-analysis of what the author might possibly have meant by using one particular wording over another.

Title: Humerous images.
Post by: Hornet on June 16, 2006, 10:54:51 AM

I never had that problem, as I used to read far ahead of the rest of the class, which let me enjoy the book without having to worry about the analysis stuff.  In fact, thinking about it, I viewed the analysis as a secondary activity to the reading...  Oh well, it worked.  :miffed:

Anyway.

*returns thread to its proper course*

The analysing stuff for English has ruined so many good books/plays for entire generations of people.

MacBeth is a very good play. Can I stand to watch it? Only Kurosawa's 'Throne of Blood' version.

They kept switching the summer reading lists when I was in HS, so I never had that book assigned to me... did I miss out on anything?  :P

Men in Black:  Humans that try to get aliens to coexist peacefully with humans without the humans' knowledge.

Women in White:  Aliens that incite intrigue between humans and aliens in obvious ways.

And therein lies their sole marketing appeal.

I'm quite tempted to buy one of these, but I'm living with a nest of religious types, and they'd probably object - they wouldn't know a joke if it fell on them, for the most part.

Shush, you.  Other brands won't have to pay for the franchise costs, thus have more money to spare on the important, healing parts of the device.

This is probably worth a read if anyone has a few minutes. (http://www.zug.com/gab/index.cgi?func=view_thread&sort=active&head=1&thread_id=64475)

Eep, ZUG. I'll be in there forever now ...  <_<

p.s. the money Hello Kitty makes from overpriced franchised merchandise leaves them with way more profits to put into sticky healing devices than the more traditional, less cutesy feline-orientated brands.

I think the puppies are just sleepy, rather than dead.

And, quest for ratings? No...?

Title: Humerous images.
Post by: Hornet on February 01, 2007, 03:58:28 PM

They weren't dead, at least, one presumes so.  Young animals tend to be closer to others of their kind than they do when they're older.  As kittens, two cats I had were very happy to curl up together.  Now, they wouldn't be caught dead doing it.  (No pun / reference intended.)
