331  BPSITE / Arts & Literature / Matrix: Reloaded on: June 02, 2003, 07:30:14 PM
yup...i said that...but you've taken it way out of context...there are philisophical undertones to the movie, but it should not be noticable unless you look for it, it can be enjoyed at different levels, and my point was that you should not feel the effect was "hammered in"

and i can tell humour from serious comments...its just that the wording in your posts aren't exactly top notch O.o

and yes, i don't believe science can tell the meaning of life for reasons stated in my previous post...

offended?...nah not really, maybe you missed the smiles in the text...i was kinda eatin a big bucket of chicken so i couldn't really be arsed to type too well...i just slapped down the first thing i came up with

philisophy?...i've read some Plato...i don't think i got the "inner" message though, maybe because of the translation problems...can't say i'm amazingly interested, its just that i think those elements are very important in the film, which was why i kept going on about it

played it....decent game, not great

and SS is right...UT2k3 rules
333  BPSITE / Arts & Literature / Matrix: Reloaded on: June 02, 2003, 04:18:52 PM
well get some glasses...XD the fight thing was a random stab at pop culture...meh, if you didn't understand it...

and sience can't answer the meaning of life...because as SS correctly said, the question is unknown...there is no cause, therefore there can be no conclusion...and i believe 42 came from the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy...so um...shut up XD

i really really hope you were joking about that 42 thing...because god help you if you weren't

and there were no philisophical "statements" you were mean to discover them for yourself...if you actually heard someone talking about philosophy in the film...then i suggest you go out and see a non-pirate version of it

dunno...different people watch it in different ways...and people get out of it what they will...so some people will inevitably think its a pile of crap...while others watch it in their own style and think its amazing
334  BPSITE / Arts & Literature / Matrix: Reloaded on: May 31, 2003, 08:17:59 PM
because there's no understanding attatched to it...it is not a why?...it is a response to a command
335  BPSITE / Arts & Literature / What would you Matrix-Name be? on: May 31, 2003, 07:07:30 PM
Equa...from Equable, meaning constant, unchanging...
336  BPSITE / Arts & Literature / Matrix: Reloaded on: May 31, 2003, 05:29:37 PM
<_<  you're ruining my philisophical mood...

except neo didn't know why he was there...he didn't know why he needed the keymaker...he was there because someone told him to be there...which is a terrible reason
337  BPSITE / Arts & Literature / Matrix: Reloaded on: May 31, 2003, 04:46:46 PM
actually, its probably one of those...

but this got me thinking...another thing the person was talking about...since the eventuality is not persistent, it does not matter in the loop on life, what is persistent is the question itself, the why. But since Neo came to him with no why, no understanding of the question itself, he came to the person with nothing...and with no question, there can be no answer

see?...philisophical  :sheep:

oh thats not really a reason...though i can see what you mean, the obvious answer to that is, what feels right for you to do, means nothing in the long run...as you'll soon be dead anyway...

basicly what you're saying is that the purpose of life is to do, whatever you damn well feel like...however, the meaning of life is actually a much simplified question...its actually, why does anything exist?...what purpose does it fulfil?...and its actually the lack of answers thereof that defines the human race...not the knowledge of such answers...which i believe is what the odd french fellow from Reloaded was talking about

"The meaning of life" is a non-sensical statement, like saying "the filesize of a pizza", or "the shape of fun", and you cannot (correctly) answer a query where there is no real question.

Unfortunately, unlike computer compilers, Life does not tend to give error messages when we do stupid things. Sad
ok then...why do we live?...

instead of picking at a tiny clerical error, maybe you'd like to take a look at the main meaning of my previous post?

but i see you're not really a philosophy kinda guy...more into solid facts and figures...
340  BPSITE / Arts & Literature / Matrix: Reloaded on: May 31, 2003, 02:29:29 PM
oh i think if you look slightly deeper and analyse individual references in the film....you'll find some philisophical elements...but i doubt many people will do that...

for example...the french guy's comments...why is basicly all this is about, the eventuality of the subject is irrelevant, the understanding of the why is what it life is all about...however do we know why we live?...what is the meaning of life? we don't know...does that mean that human life is irrelevant, that we live and die for no purpose?...or maybe not...

theres quite a few ones like that strewn randomly about the film...but i can't really be bothered to think about them closely...

is anyone watching the Animatrix?...i caught the "second renaissance" yesterday night...well, more like this morning...but those short features are seriously cool
341  BPSITE / Games and Gaming / mod dev on: May 30, 2003, 06:39:41 PM
coder, mapper, skinner and maybe animator is gonna be mightily hard to do before the actual game is released...of course you could stick to making static meshes for the maps but i don't see how you're going to get much done without the actual game out...
342  BPSITE / Games and Gaming / If...? on: May 27, 2003, 03:12:51 PM
its also why unlocking battalions is a good idea...later on you'd know how to use all the badass combos avaliable better...whereas at the start the focus should be getting your kingdom on its feet...
343  BPSITE / Games and Gaming / If...? on: May 27, 2003, 02:47:55 PM
ah, so you're definately going with the battalion idea instead of the heros?...and if there going to be sets of premade stances...there will be no difference at all in the two approaches

on other thing...are you going to take up the suggestion of "unlocking" more battalions as time goes on?...the game could calculate your networth...and unlock more battalions as it grows higher...
344  BPSITE / Games and Gaming / If...? on: May 27, 2003, 11:37:07 AM
maps are interesting...but where its been implemented before...i haven't seen the need for a map, land is just another statistic on the side of the screen...another vital resource that the player must collect...

oh yeah another thing...promise when you set up a forum for future suggestions...you actually listen to the players' comments

Everous, some good ideas... I was considering doing "land", but I couldn't think of a good way to handle it... your method for it is certainly worth thinking about.

The hero thing could work in a similar way to jlwd2's methods I think, especially as I didn't want to over-complicate things with magic (too much variety/too much work), but I think it would still be possible to have the combo's using this method, and perhaps having explosive weapons which could do things such as blind would work without being too complex.
well, considering me and jlwd2's ideas are almost identical, they're just presented very differently...

At first I wasn't so keen about this hero and combo thing. I was thinking more in terms of divisions (archers, cavalry, foot soldiers etc....) and lots of different tactics with each of them... Then I realised that its basically the same. Just replacing division with hero and tactic with combo. The good thing about everous's idea is that (although very reminiscent of the HOMM series), it seems quite unique for an online game (I think). An important fact if and when this is actually made. As unless it is pay-per-play, advertisers will be needed. A unique sounding game may draw more interest.

oh and the magic, i don't understand how it would be more complicated that doing something like explosives...my idea is that the magic effect lasts for the duration of the attack, so that another can take advantage of it....if they don't, then the effect is wasted

one thing i did notice was different to jlwd2's idea was that his "divisions" are premade, whereas heros could be picked when registering an account...this would give greater variety and bring out more playing styles...and therefore...add to tactics
